Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Old Claddagh Ring From: GUEST,L. GRANT Date: 27 Jan 12 - 01:45 PM THE ONLY PERSON I KNOW THAT PERFORMED THIS ON THE ACCORDION AND SANG IT WAS THE LATE DERMOT O' BRIEN FROM IRELAND. I WOULD LIKE TO GET HOLD OF THE PRINTED MUSIC IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS IT, AS FAR AS I KNOW IT IS OUT OF PRINT! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Old Claddagh Ring From: Brían Date: 30 Nov 01 - 11:04 PM There is a mention to the author on Joe Heaney's "Saya Song" CD, but I don't happen to have it with me. Brían |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Old Claddagh Ring From: MartinRyan Date: 30 Nov 01 - 02:26 PM Joe DId you listen to that Margo Kelly track? Assuming its a woman, my guess is she's the singer rather than the putative author. Regards |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Old Claddagh Ring From: MartinRyan Date: 30 Nov 01 - 11:23 AM This Site ascribes it to Dr. A Colohan who (apparently) also wrote the standard "Galway Bay" song. No idea if its reliable - the author seems a bit doubtful of its reliability. Regards |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Old Claddagh Ring From: MartinRyan Date: 30 Nov 01 - 06:23 AM Joe I know that there's sheet music to a song called "My old Claddagh Ring" attributed to one P B Kelly. Not sure if its the same one. I'll check. Regards |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Old Claddagh Ring From: Joe Offer Date: 30 Nov 01 - 06:14 AM Do we have a songwriter name? One site I found says it was written by James O'Neill, but there isn't enough documentation for me to call it a credible attribution. An album at CDNOW has a cut with that title, songwriter Margo Kelly (there's a sound clip, too). -Joe Offer- |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE OLD CLADDAGH RING (Michael Bracken) From: Greyeyes Date: 23 Apr 01 - 06:08 PM THE OLD CLADDAGH RING Michael Bracken The Old Claddagh Ring, it was my grandmother's She wore it a lifetime, and gave it to me All through the long years, she wore it so proudly It was made where the Claddagh rolls down to the sea What tales it could tell, of trials and of hardship And of grand happy days, when the whole world did sing So away with your sorrow, it will bring luck tomorrow Sure everyone loves it, the Old Claddagh Ring With the crown and the crest, to remind us of honour And clasping the heart that God's blessing would bring A circle of gold, always kept homes contented With true love entwined in the Old Claddagh Ring As she knelt at her prayers and thought of the dear ones Her soft gentle smile, it would charm a king On her worn hand, as she told me her story You could see the bright glint of the Old Claddagh Ring It was her gift to me, and it made me so happy With this on my finger, my heart beats would ring No king on his throne could be half so happy As I am when wearing my Old Claddagh Ring When the angels above call me up to heaven In the heart of the Claddagh, their voices will sing "Away with your sorrows, you'll be with us tomorrow, Be sure and bring with you, the Old Claddagh Ring". |
