Subject: Lyr Add: LITTLE DARLIN', PAL OF MINE (Joan Baez)^^ From: Ralph Butts Date: 24 Nov 97 - 06:14 PM D.......I've got lots of Carter Albums, but not that song. This one is the Joan Baez version, ca. 1959......Tiger LITTLE DARLIN', PAL OF MINE
In the night, while you lay sleeping,
My little darlin', oh how, I love you, How I love you, none can tell. In your heart you love another, Little darlin', pal of mine.
Many a day, with you I've rambled,
There's just three things that I could wish for,

Subject: RE: Little Darlin' pal of Mine From: dulcimer Date: 24 Nov 97 - 07:57 PM These are close lyrics as I hear them on the Rounder (C 1064) release of the music the Carters did in 1927-28, supposely their first two sessions of recording. The only difference I found was in the first line"Many a night ..." The Carter start and end the recording with the chorus. |
Subject: RE: Little Darlin' pal of Mine From: Bill D Date: 24 Nov 97 - 08:43 PM In about 72-73, I was at one of the early 'Walnut Valley Bluegrass festivals'..(National Flatpickin' Championships..etc..in Kansas)...met 5 or 6 other autoharpists in the campground, and we decided to tune up & play....after 30 minutes of tuning, the only song we could think of that we ALL knew was "Little Darlin',Pal o' Mine" ....somehow that seemed significant at the time... |
Subject: RE: Little Darlin' pal of Mine From: D Duryea Date: 25 Nov 97 - 12:12 PM Thanks to all. I'm new at this internet stuff, so I thrilled by the response. Is it always this easy? RE: the "hartley" message in the older "pal of mine" thread: I have the CD and listened to it all day but couldn't make out the words for beans. You must have a better ear than me! |
Subject: RE: Little Darlin' pal of Mine From: Bill D Date: 25 Nov 97 - 10:57 PM oh, sure...it's always this easy.....if we don't know the answer, we will invent one....*grin*...but it will seem so plausible, you will think you remember it...(just kidding...just kidding!!) actually, it can be really amazing sometimes..if you get 30 or 40 folkies together in a room, you can have a really broad array of songs available....and here you have many more...plus their libraries!!..Thats why this forum exists- to reduce the guessing and wondering... |
Subject: RE: Little Darlin' pal of Mine From: harpgirl Date: 06 Dec 97 - 06:16 PM Regarding Little Darlin' Pal o" Mine...I wrote the following verse which anyone is welcome to add. " As I walk through life without you And my pleasures now are few Won't you think of me my darlin' As a maid who once loved you..." |

Someone was kind enough to put up FIVE more copies of your comment! :-) Looks to me like the dreaded thread killer was at work on this one ~~ happens to me every so often, too.
I do have a REALLY nice recording of this by either Anne Byrne or Paddie Bell ~~ Bell, I think. I'll look it up if you are interested. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Little Darlin' Pal of Mine (Carter Family From: GUEST Date: 26 Feb 12 - 06:55 AM Many a night while you ay sleeping Dreaming of your amber skies Was a poor boy brokenhearted Listening to the winds that sigh My little darling oh how I love you I love you none can tell In your heart you love another Little darling pal o' mine Many a day with you I rambled Happiest hours with you I spent I thought i had your heart forever Now I find it's only lent Many a dream I have been dreaming Of your hair's long golden strands Now you go to wed another And you say we'll still be friends There is nought for me to live for If to anothers arms you go My poor heart just keeps on breaking I can't bear it hurting so There are just three things I wish for That my casket you embrace When I'm gone don't weep for me Just kiss those lips that you betrayed |
