*sniff* Wookie, I hardly knew ye!

Hmmm...a poetry competition you want, Darth Caitrin? Hmmm? Alright, you asked for it!

The Rebel Space Chantey #2

We're close to the Death Star, it hangs in the sky,
Hey ho, and blow that thing up!
Imperials don't see us as we all roar by,
Hey ho and blow that thing up!

We're a bunch of no-goods but still we win fame,
Hey ho, and blow that thing up!
Who cares if our leader can't spell his own name!
Hey ho, and blow that thing up!

And when this is over we'll have such a binge,
Hey ho, and blow that thing up!
That even old Jabba with horror would cringe,
Hey ho, and blow that thing up!

Imperial Space Chantey

It's a hey-ho, heigh-ho
Cruisin' through the stars
Shootin' down the Rebels
and hangin' out in bars
It's a ho-hey, heigh-hey
Our soldiers cannot aim
But still the Dark will triumph
and the Light go up in flames!

~Darth Caitrin

A Mudwoookie am I,
And I fly Tattooine;s skies
In search of Darth Todd
Whose eye is rather odd
His light razor's slick,
And he shaved me so quick
And when the hair was gone
And on the floor scattered round
This Wookie now pale and pink,
Away to hide had to slink

But now once more I stand and roar
Over the sands I dip and soar,
Revenge is all that's on my mind,
That barber I swear I'll find,
My body wig covers me well,
Once more with pride I swell
Soon I'll have my fill
And his life's blood I will spill.

Ve ssink sis is not funny! *BG* That's really funny that your coworker went to Germany! She should have picked a better time, though, the weather is rotten over here--not that it's always raining: No! It also hails! Wish I was back on Tatooine...

Oh give me a home where the Sandpeople roam,
Where the Jawas and Banthas all play,
Where seldom is heard a stormtrooper's word
And the suns they do bake us all day!

Answer: 9W

Question: Do you spell you name with a "V", Herr Wagner?

(Stolen from the pun thread)

No I didn't notice any accent. Funny about the coincidence. One of my coworkers just left today to visit her daughter in Germany.

Well said, that about the passing of an era. I'm currently re-reading my Foundation series, and still find them as great as the first time. The robot stories are wonderful, too--hard to say what is the best of them. And,yes, I nearly forgot Anderson! Of course, he should belong to that science fiction writers' "pantheon" as well...

Naemanson, your Wookie poetry is really cool! The full body wig nearly made me snort my tea all over my monitor! There's a cartoon in it somewhere, I'll see if I get it out. Wish I could write fun stuff like that, but sadly, I'm just a scrawny little Rebel pilot in dire need of a haircut and no sense for poetry...but wait...there's something creeping into my brain:

The Rebel Pilot's Space Chantey
(Tune: The Lands of Liberty)

Then I'll cut off my long yellow hair,
Orange overalls I'll don.
I'll sign on a Calamari ship,
My passage I'll work free
And I'll fly the great big galaxy
In search of the Mudwookie!

Ahem. My two cents. (Yeah I know, but it's late at night here so don't yell at me :-)

You ain't the only survivor, Mad Maudlin. On the day Isaac died I stood in my living room and cried. It signalled the passing of an era. Heinlein, Niven, Asimov, Anderson, etc. Some gone some still with us. the new guys have a whole different flavor.

But that's the thread creep we need to avoid.

I'm a Mudwookie, brash and big,
Naked, without a leaf of fig,
Before I take another swig,
I need a huge full body wig.

Hey now, Midchuck! The fact that I like Star Wars doesn't change the fact that I've read more than my fair share of Heinlein, Asimov, and Verne.
As for stage name, I end up as "Marie Spring". *grins* Good thing I'm a techie and don't need it.

Naemanson, okay, nice try. But I think I'll make you my sacred animal nevertheless. If only for your poetry. :-) And I'll help you fight Darth Sweeney Todd - just keep him at bay until the batteries of his lightrazor run out. I saw him buy those cheap ones, so it must only be a matter of minutes. Shaving a Mudwookie's fur...grrrrrrr....how could he!

Deanna Troy came from my home town of Walsall, you know. She'd look good with pretzels ... so did Sue Lawley and Noddy Holder, and Boy George lived there for a year. I think Walsall would benefit from the Death Star treatment, actually, but leave the Art Gallery and the Black Statue of Princess Di of as a warning to future generations.

Maybe Jedi will start to split into different factions. We will get Jedist monks who cannot talk because they are always too drunk on the beer they make. Jeduits can start purging the religion of unbelievers by applying cruel head-dresses to princesses....

I think the Jedi were intended to be a religion. Whatshisname that made the movie was an apostle of Joseph Campbell, who is all the time being denounced on the Web as a horseman of the Apocalypse, apostle of New Age religion, and the like (look for Joseph Campbell on googol (not "google" and see what fascinating stuff turns up).
