Hi everyone!
I have the words of this song in Ceolta Gael by
Seán Óg ang Mánus Ó Baoill. The same two verses
are in Abair Amhrán. I suspect there are more verses.
Does anyone know any additional verses or know any recordings of this as a song?

I do play this as a slow air agus tá mo chuid gaeilge réasúnta, freisin.

and in the beginning and the end of each verse, may Ireland be Cait Ni Dhuibhir's.

mo chlann go bhfuil i ndaorbhroid go tréithlag is gan preab ina gcroí.
Ach éireiodh clanna Gael agus léimfidh go mear gach claíomh

Thats my best attempt to translate. Please mention where you got the translation if you use it. I suspect Cáit is the same as an sean bhean bhocht, or poor, old woman, Ireland personified as in Four Green Fields. Meditate on this while you are playing it.

I left ot the third line in the first verse which says roughly:The cuckoo the blackbird and the thrush were urgent and each note was true.

I actually found the words amongst some papers I brought home from a gaeltacht weekend. It is definitely an aisling style song with classical allusions. If you want, I could post them with a translation later, it would take some time, as its in the old script.
