I know this is far from a music request but I was hoping there might be someone who could help me. I need to find a really well written, readable biography of Leonardo da Vinci.
If anyone knows of one or where I should go about looking, I would really appreciate the help,

There is a pretty good biography in a book called: Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects. A guy named Georgio Vasari wrote a bit in it called "Life of Leonardo da Vinci" and it's probably the most concise thing I've ever read on the subject. I like it when they give you leads you can follow up on your own instead of droning on and on about something. This guy did just that.

I'm glad were all such democrats that Signor Vasari becomes just one of us guys. Kind of comforting.

There is an older but (to me) very readable bio called The Romance of Leonardo da Vinci. As title indicates, this is imaginative, but the imagination is kept within reasonable historical bounds. Author is Dmitri Merejkowski a pretty interesting guy also. Find it Advanced Book Exchange (international dealers).

Yet another da Vinci bio I consider readable is "Leonardo da Vinci: The Tragic Pursuit of Perfection," by Antonia Vallentin. (Vasari, "Lives of the Artists," which contains a much shorter bio than either this one or Merejkowski's, is available in Penguin.)

Hey guys, I can't thank you enough. I know you must all think I am so intelligent, seeking to expand my cultural horizons but the truth is, it is my sister Sherry who has all the brains in our family. She asked me if it would be possible to ask my Mudcat friends if they knew of a good book on Leonardo Da Vinci to recommend to her.
Alas, I must resort to batting my eye lashes and show some cleavage to earn my worth.

To bring back the subject... there's a fairly nice mildy fictionalized biography of Leonardo from the point of view of one of his apprentices titled _The Second Mrs. Giaconda_; it's aimed at a young adult audience, but is a good deal of fun to read; it's by E.L. Konigsberg, who wrote a number of other good young adult books.
