The best I found has the usual collection of 'Best of Irish Folk' and I had to spell 'Watersons' when asking. - There is a 'Celtic Corner - The Best of Ireland and the British Isles' (Kevin McGrath would be proud of that formulation and geographers would say that two words are superfluous), a kind of souvenir shop. You wouldn't want to buy British souvenirs in Germany, would you? - Probably no live folkmusic in Muenster at the weekend (except by us), sorry. One weekend earlier and you could have listened to 'Einstuerzende Heuschober' (collapsing haybarns) playing traditional German dance music, well worth seeing and hearing. One weekend later and you could have heard 'One 4 the road' a German-Irish band with the implicit aim to demonstrate that they can make each Irish song sound like 'The Wild Rover'. - A room in a pub was more difficult, for they don't like to give away rooms on Saturdays (the days with the best business). For that reason, 'Scott's corner' (draught cider, draught McEwan's, draught Newcastle Brown Ale, 100 malt whiskies, barfood, haggis, ...) said 'no thanks' as did some restaurants with local food. So I settled for a fairly new bistro (not many customers yet) with Mediterranean cuisine, that is pizza and pasta. It was alright last night. They even wanted to give us a stage but I said no thanks. Not that I doubt that several of you can make a great performance on stage, but I think the idea of a gathering is slightly different. We can eat there together on Saturday evening and then have a room off the main room with can sit about 20 people. - They also do have breakfast (buffet) on Sunday morning which solves one of my problems, for I could not sit more than 6 to 8 persons. I got into a cracking session outside on the forecourt area one warm night with a couple of Swedes, a German, an American, and several others who I don't know where they came from. I will admit to it being in my bodhran days, but at least it meant I knew the tunes! The Swedes had to be dragged out of the session to go home on their bus or they'd miss the ferry! Anyway, more to the point, it seems from what I remember, that not so far from the 'halle there is a pub that brews its own. (You could always trust Ebor to nose out something like that)! I didn't get to go in because I was childminding most of the time. All I know is that it was near enough for them to visit and not miss what they were supposed to be doing at the event. Andrea |

The landlady, speaking near perfect German (she says she even speaks better Italian, Spanish, French and Arab) is an American from Minnesota and says she loves folk music. The places with the good bear are crowded on Saturdays. We could have gone to a good place for eating with its own beer but they wouldn't let us make music. As a kind of compromise I have bought two crates of good German beer (Jever and Pott's Landbier) for the time they throw us out and we'll have to return to my place. There'll be red wine from either Chile or Spain and there'll be white wine from either Chile or New Zealand. There'll be about ten different malts from Scotland (including one I bet even Susanne has not yet tasted) and, just in case, mineral water and juices. So used whatever they serve as drink in the bistro to keep you from getting too thirsty and save a bit of the thirst for later. I didn't ask when we'll have to leave but I guess it'll be at about midnight. Mcmoo, I'mm curious. where are you staying? Wolfgang |

PA USA) MudGathering just ended, and I wanted to say to everyone planning the Germany one-- hey everyone, have a GREAT TIME. What I learned from just having done this is that the more advance prep you do just in case, the more you get to relax and not worry at ALL as things unfold. None of my prep was wasted, even though I felt quite over-prepared.... like smart packing, I actually used everything I had gotten or rearranged or planned for, and needed every contingency plan I'd made, in some small way, that allowed it all to unfold effortlessly and with no RUNNING things once arrivals began. I also learned that putting all the info in the thread like I did, and like you seem to be doing, was GREAT. Everyone knew everything they needed to know to help keep everything flowing really well and seamlessly. Best cooperation between people who didn't even know one another that I have ever seen. I think we could have sailed a tallship if we'd wanted to. We also found it very important to have a space where people could drop out of the things going on as they needed to. People who needed to rest, or just chill out, wandered off unhindered and unpursued, and this kept all the energy very positive throughout. A few seemed to make a bit of a retreat out of the weekend. Some people found themselves talking about deep things that had been preoccupying them, and there were many good listeners in our bunch. Anyway I wish you the best with your MudGather! Maybe someday all the people who've ever hosted one can get together and talk about how intense it is to be at one you have organized! Wow!!!! ~Susan |

Wednesday evening last week I lost a filling from a tooth, which was replaced Thursday morning. All through the weekend, I thought the tooth is ok, till Monday morning, 2 AM when I awoke with very severe pain. Monday I was at the dentist again who took out the new filling and also some pus . She left the hole open so the wound could heal before the new filling is coming in. Tomorrow morning I have the next date with her - she will decide whether it is time to put in a new filling or whether it has to wait. As long as my tooth does not work all right again, I won't go - hopefully it will be okay after tomorrow's visit at the dentist, there is no pain since she took out the filling so it looks good. I will let you know tomorrow about the newest developments in my mouth. This is not yet a cancelling - I just want you to be prepared in case I really have to cancel (which I do not hope). MudGuard |

Only 21/2 days to go. The "Pride of Rotterdam" made her maiden ferry crossing today, complete with 2,000,000 !!! Smuggled cigarettes which were found at Hull in a lorry-what a start, 2,000,000 fags Tuesday and us lot returning on Sunday night/Monday morning!! The boat leaves later, as it's a faster crossing, does that mean we'll have a later check in time Bill? Stay longer in Germany? I know it will only be a few hours longer, but the Pride doesn't leave hull until 21.00hrs instead of 18.00 normally. I expect it will be the same from Europort. I wish Wednesday and Thursday would fly by, then it will be Friday at last. it's a bit like a kid wishing for Christmas or a birthday, much like me wishing for the end of term!!! Cheers. Eric |

It didn't stop me from getting about (not for weekends - I certainly wouldn't risk going on holiday with an open tooth!). The only thing is to keep the hole clear of foodstuffs (for which I carried a small pointed pair of pincers - I think ...) and get a chance to brush your teeth regularly.
