Dear folkies, I`m new to play mandoline and search for a table of mandoline chords. Until yet I didn`t find anything on the net and also didn`t I in the links page of this forum (maybe it is just too big and I got confused with all that information on it ;-). Maybe someone is around here to give me some help? thanks in advance, Fred

In the top box, enter the words 'mandolin' and 'chords'
More chords than you'll ever use :)
or simply Click Here

And welcome to Mudcat! Where are you? What are you playing on your mandolin? Do you also play violin?

~Susan

Thank you very much! That really helped a lot!
Wysiwyg: No, I don`t play the violin, I regret. And I even don`t know what I`m going to play on the mandolin. As a matter of fact, I see myself as a guitar player. Just by accident I became a mandolin player, because every four of us play the guitar. So I was the one "forced" to learn to play the mandolin. And that`s what I try now ;-) And what I`m trying is to play a rocking Irish Folk.

I suggest you pick up a copy of "Niles Hokkanen's Guide To Mandolin Chords (and how to use them)". Mine came from Elderly Music in Lansing Michigan. The price on the cover is $8.00, though I think it's slightly discounted by Elderly.

I don't know of a better source on-line, and having the book precludes the electronic requirement.

The diagrams are clear, and the explanations are concise.

I wish I'd had this when I started playing, it would have saved me alot of time.

Peace. Mooh.

My apologies for not being more specific. The abovementioned book is published by The Mandocrucian's Digest, PO Box 3585, Winchester VA USA 22604. Get the 2000 edition as it's much better than the 1983 edition.

Mooh.

Ah, so you are having an adventure with the mandolin! What, the other three lack courage? Who knows where it will lead-- do you know that mandolin and violin are tuned the same, and so melodies are done with the same fingering? You can learn a lot on the mandolin, and then try the violin!

Susan,

do you think it would really be of any help for learning violin? I'm playing the mandolin quite well and bought a fiddle.

If it's true what you said above, it encourages me a little bit *g*. Cause some weeks ago I was in the mood to burn this f**** fiddle in the Beltainefire :o)

Sabine
