Subject: 'Abiline' From: Bugsy Date: 03 May 01 - 01:17 AM I'm trying to get hold of the lyrics to Abiline. Goes something like: Abiline, Abiline, Pretties town I've ever seen Gals down there don't treat you mean, In Abiline, my Abiline. I sit alone most every night And watch the trains as they roll out of sight Wish that one would carry me right to Abiline, my Abiline Does anyone know of any more verses to this song? CHeers Bugsy |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Abiline' From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 03 May 01 - 01:26 AM Only other verse I got is:
Crowded city, ain't nothin free, Nothin in this town for me Wish to the lord that I could be In Abiline, my Abiline
Wrote another myself, but that obviously wouldn't be considered part of the original. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Abiline' From: catspaw49 Date: 03 May 01 - 08:11 AM Well Bugsy............There have been a number of threads like this one and "Abilene" is in the DT as well. For more good stuff, type Abilene (of all things) into the "Forum and DT Search" box and you'll find some other stuff too. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Abiline' From: Bugsy Date: 03 May 01 - 08:25 AM Yeah Spaw, I typed in Abiline in the forum/dt box and got nothing. In the DT if you click on Abiline, you get a Blind Blake song Called YAS YAS YAS! Still thanks for the link. It gives me some new verses there. CHeers Bugsy |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Abiline' From: Sorcha Date: 03 May 01 - 09:38 AM The problem might be due to the fact that it is spelled Abeline, not Abilene, bugsy. That's how spaw spelled it to find it. Also, a lot of times you have to keep clicking on the "Next Page" option to find exactly what you are looking for. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Abiline' From: Bugsy Date: 03 May 01 - 09:36 PM By the way - having never crossed the great divide to the US of A, I ask: Would it rate as "The prettiest town I've ever seen" through YOUR eyes???
Cheers

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Abiline' From: Sorcha Date: 03 May 01 - 09:51 PM 1) I goobered up the spelling too, now I'm not sure what it is. 2)I don't know. It's about Abeline, Texas and I have only been to Abeline, KS. 3)No, Abeline, KS is NOT the prettiest town I have ever seen. (however the hell you spell it!, lol) 4)I think the prettiest town I have ever seen is probably Cuernavaca, Mexico, with Galveston, Texas a close second. Gotta remember, tho, I wasn't on a long, dusty trail drive. ANY town would look good after one of those, no? |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Abiline' From: rangeroger Date: 03 May 01 - 11:02 PM While the DT may have it spelled Abeline, the correct spelling according to my Collier's World Atlas and Gazeteer (1937) is Abilene for both the Texas and Kansas towns. rr |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: 'Abiline' From: Deckman Date: 04 May 01 - 04:53 AM Years ago, there was a local (Washington state) parody called "Aberdeen." I've forgotten it. Does anyone out there remember it? Thanks, Bob (deckman) Nelson |
