Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Ron Olesko Date: 25 May 01 - 04:05 PM It worked! And it didn't hurt or leave a mark! Thanks Jeri!! Ron |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Sandy Paton Date: 25 May 01 - 08:21 PM You'll meet our Jeri at Old Songs, Ron. Come to the Folk-Legacy booth and we'll introduce you. Come to the Saturday night song swap in the Dutch barn and hear her sing one of her own fine songs. We heard it at Indian Neck and got her to promise to share it with the group at Old Songs. Is Bill Hahn coming up, too? Sandy |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: kendall Date: 26 May 01 - 01:20 AM Actually, I got kicked out of the procrastinators club for paying my dues on time. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: GUEST,MMario ~in Dallas Date: 27 May 01 - 02:08 PM bbc! fantastic! can't wait. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Jeri Date: 27 May 01 - 10:06 PM Hey - I gave somebody advice, and it worked!!! Sandy, it's funny - folks around here don't seem to like that song much. I came back from Indian Neck and sang it in our session, and it was probably the last time I'll do it here. Sandy, I never cared much for the organised song swaps until I went to yours last year. I'm really looking forward to meeting old and new friends! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: DaveJ Date: 28 May 01 - 04:10 AM I have been campping next to those Wood Chucks for about three years now! (er maybe...They've been camping next to me). The traveling toilet still gives me a chuckle. Those Chucks are a fine bunch... a fine bunch indeed. I hope to camp next to them this year, too. My tickets on the frig. Dave |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Jeri Date: 28 May 01 - 12:37 PM I suspect most places in the campground are close to the Woodchucks. They have a compound. Hey Chucks, are you guys responsible for the port-a-pooper actually traveling?! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: bigchuck Date: 28 May 01 - 06:20 PM Not me. I was in my tent trying to sleep at the time. It was fairly drunk out that evening, as I recall, and Jack Hardy was in the compound at the time, and I do seem to remember an exhaust rumble that sounded suspiciously like my son-in-laws truck but....nah. It was convenient having it there though. Kris keeps threatening to write a tune called Potty on the Turnpike, though. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Jeri Date: 28 May 01 - 06:53 PM Potty's on track Put it out back Take a turn around the campground, heave up men Sneak it off the truck, now boys be handy The Chuck's have stolen the crapper once again. Oh, Sandy said that he was soundly snoozin' (snoozin') But Jack Hardy was a desperate little man (man, man) The facilities were to far when he'd been boozin' (boozin') And to swipe the plastic can he had a plan (plan, plan)
|
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: bigchuck Date: 28 May 01 - 08:15 PM Lovely, Jeri. Don't be surprized if it gets stolen for certain nefarious purposes. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Jeri Date: 28 May 01 - 09:13 PM Needs more verses. ...and if I hear a potty-pilfering shanty at oh-drunk-thirty in the morning, there will be NO hiding place! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Midchuck Date: 28 May 01 - 09:43 PM Like Sandy, I know nothing. Kris and I emerged from the tent in the morning and there it was. As an officer of the Court (albeit not the New York courts), I must object, however, to the use of the term "pilfering." There was no removal of the property from the possession of the Festival, nor, to my knowledge, any intent to do so. Kris actually has proposed a trilogy of tunes. The other two are Fillmore Hornpoop and Port-o-let's Fairwell. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: kendall Date: 28 May 01 - 09:46 PM Hot corn cold corn bring along a port-a-john... |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: bigchuck Date: 28 May 01 - 09:53 PM Well, if they'd just put the damn things where you didn't have to walk half a mile to use em at 3:00 in the frikkin am, they'd stay where they were. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Burke Date: 29 May 01 - 12:33 PM Got my tent on Saturday. I've just found out we have a candidate in for a job search on Friday, so I won't be able to go early. :-( It's about a 2 hour drive for me so I should be there in time for the concert. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: CET Date: 29 May 01 - 10:12 PM My wife (Charmion) and I will be there. We were going anyway, but having met Mudcatters for the first time over the Memorial Day weekend at Portland, Me and at Bat Goddess's makes me look forward to it even more. I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces. Woodchucks: how do we recognize your caravanserai? Ours will be a big internal frame tent, probably flying the Canadian flag. All Mudcatters are invited to drop by for a drink. Edmund |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Midchuck Date: 30 May 01 - 08:46 AM Edmund: Look for the sign in the "noisy" camping area. Peter. |

Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: DaveJ Date: 31 May 01 - 02:13 AM OOPS- Put that one in the wrong window. Anyway I'll see you guys at Old Songs. Maybe I'll get Phil Shapiro over to your "tent(s)" this time. Dave |

Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Barry Finn Date: 02 Jun 01 - 01:08 PM The doctors Thrusday ok'd me for camping so the whole fam damily will be there. It'll be great to see & hear all of you. Barry |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: kendall Date: 02 Jun 01 - 01:42 PM Thats great news Barry! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Jeri Date: 02 Jun 01 - 01:42 PM Barry - GREAT!!! I received my ticket on Fri. Hopefully, I'll get there early enough this year so I don't have to squeeze my tent in sideways. Not that I sleep in it much anyway. (I need a bigger tent. It's supposed to sleep 2, but I think they meant 10 year olds. Small ones.) I want to hear Justine sing again. She has such a pretty voice but doesn't sing much. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Susan A-R Date: 02 Jun 01 - 02:54 PM I'm officially reserved and camping sited. I'm coming with my friend Pam, and am not sure when we'll arrive/leave, but we have full-festival tickets, and I'm fully prepared to get a fill in for Friday and close on Monday so I can do the whole darned thing. Now I can go back to the website and figure out who I want to make sure I hear, and when I can get rowdy with woodchucks, visit Folk Legacy, etc. See you all there, well sort of. Those of you who know me, remember to flag me down, as I don't recognize faces so well. Great to hear that you'll be there Barry!! Susan A-R |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Peg Date: 02 Jun 01 - 03:00 PM yay BARRY!!!!!!! woo hoo. Well, folks, my summer trip to England is seeming like a fantasy at this point (the rumored low airfares just ain't out there) so it DOES look like I just might make it to Old Songs. That is, if Kendall and I can get there without being sidetracked by some libertarian cause or other along the way...;) Kendall, let's PM about the details...
|
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 02 Jun 01 - 03:08 PM All this and Barry & co too??? Maggie will be so pleased- she will be thrilled to spend so much time with Natalie! And Peg, and Susan- this is getting way too good to be true! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: bigchuck Date: 02 Jun 01 - 05:43 PM Barry, that's GREAT. Susan, you can get rowdy with us any time. Peg, what liberal cause could possibly take precedence over Old Songs? I can hardly wait. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: CET Date: 02 Jun 01 - 08:37 PM We have our tickets and a camping pass, but I am wondering how early we should arrive to get a decent spot. We will likely be camping in the quiet section, and commuting to the sessions in the loud section. Does that sound feasible? Personally, I would rather sing than sleep, but we will have to get some rest for the trip back. CET |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: kendall Date: 02 Jun 01 - 11:55 PM PEG!! People will talk!! The hell of it is, they are usually wrong! You are, of course, welcome to ride with me. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Jeri Date: 03 Jun 01 - 02:16 AM CET, I used the "sleep in the quiet side, party in the loud side" for about two years. Please note that the sides are 1) quiet at night, and 2) music at night, quiet in the morning. One year, someone had an alarm clock that went off at 6:30. If you camp in the "quiet at night" side and go to bed at, say, 4AM, don't expect to sleep beyond 6 or 7. As far as getting a decent spot, if you have a largish tent, it's probably best if you get there before about 4PM. If you have a small tent, there are places to squeeze them in later than that. Of course, they start the festival activities even earlier these days, and I rarely get there before about 5PM, so I could be wrong. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Peg Date: 04 Jun 01 - 01:31 PM Kendall; I am hoping, actually, that people will SING... :)
|
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: MMario Date: 04 Jun 01 - 01:40 PM Something I always hope as well, Peg. Went to a party saturday and finally gave up on anyone else singing - so I just started doing anything that came into my head. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Hollowfox Date: 04 Jun 01 - 02:33 PM CET, the camping area isn't that big; folks usually commute with their feet, unless they need a wheelchair. Myself, I sleep in the noisy area, and I never hear anything that keeps me from sleeping. See you there. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Jeri Date: 04 Jun 01 - 05:43 PM Hollowfox, I know what you mean. If I'm tired enough to want to go to sleep at Old Songs, I can sleep through anything. I usually end up with about 4 or 5 hours of sleep each night - a far cry from Fox Hollow, where I once stayed awake for something like 92 hours straight. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 04 Jun 01 - 06:48 PM I inevitably end up waking early- no matter what time I crash into my sleeping bag- so I always stay in the Quiet at Night area, close to the Noisy border. Seems like a good compromise. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: kendall Date: 04 Jun 01 - 09:06 PM A couple of weekends ago, I went to three different parties over 100 miles apart, and was one of the last to go to bed. I outlasted all the kids, Naemanson, Jeri Sinsull and Bat Godess. We Taureans have tremendous stamina. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Midchuck Date: 04 Jun 01 - 09:19 PM Quoth Mario: Went to a party saturday and finally gave up on anyone else singing - so I just started doing anything that came into my head. That's why people won't let me come to their parties.... You're lucky. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Hollowfox Date: 05 Jun 01 - 12:11 PM Jeri, I know what you mean; you can sleep anytime for the rest of the year. I didn't pay for a ticket to sleep! But I think that the fact that we sleep at all at Old Songs is because we're older than we were, not because of the quality of the music. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: bigchuck Date: 05 Jun 01 - 06:59 PM Damn, Hollowfox, I wish you hadn't brought that up. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: kendall Date: 05 Jun 01 - 09:06 PM When I was a teenager, I could stay up all night making music, go to work the next day, and do the same thing the next night, and think nothing of it. I could still do it, and, I wouldn't think much of it now either. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Midchuck Date: 06 Jun 01 - 10:40 AM I have a habit, when singing Jesse Winchester's Yankee Lady, of singing the line, "I was making love all night, and playing guitar all day," and interjecting quickly "I was much younger then!" Peter. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Hollowfox Date: 06 Jun 01 - 12:18 PM Bigchuck darlin', we're not dead yet. Come to the Saturday night sing in Creature Comforts. Maybe between the two of us we can learn all the lyrics to "Snoozing, Bloody Well Snoozing". |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: SINSULL Date: 06 Jun 01 - 12:39 PM I am still not sure about whether I can get there or not. If I bring a sleeping bag and some single malt, can I borrow a few square feet for some rest? Unlike Kendall I can't stay up all night. (Neither can he and I have witnesses). |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Barry Finn Date: 06 Jun 01 - 05:15 PM Sinsull love, I always end up packing (sneeking) extra tarps, cushions & what ever else's deemed not needeed. We'd be happy to share any space or creature comfort with you that we've brought, not that we won't give Kendall a great run for his money, so sleep may be harder to come by, if my body holds up I may even out last the bugger, some things are stranger than fiction. Hope to see you. LOL, Barry |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: SINSULL Date: 06 Jun 01 - 06:54 PM Thanks, Barry. I can't wait to hear you sing again. It's been a long time since the last shanty sing. (I mean Chanty Sing, I think.) |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: kendall Date: 06 Jun 01 - 06:56 PM The gauntlet is cast down! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: Midchuck Date: 06 Jun 01 - 08:41 PM Having a new liver might be considered cheating by some! Peter. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs- YES! From: SINSULL Date: 06 Jun 01 - 08:46 PM This works for me. Barry and Kendall can try to outlast each other all night while I sleep peacefully in Kendall's van. Terrific plan guys. See you at Old Songs! |
