Subject: ADD: Billy Muggins From: cnd Date: 20 Aug 15 - 11:22 AM Well, Jim Dixon got most of it a while ago. Combining Jim Dixon's one and my transcription of Chas n Dave's version, which you can watch here BILLY MUGGINS (Harry Bluff) I'm Billy Muggins, commonly known as the juggins. I'm silly Billy, and that's what my friends call me. My landlord asked me to go out for a drink. I told him, "No, thank you. I'll stay home, I think." I'm Muggins, the juggins, And Muggins I'll always be. I'm Billy Muggins, commonly known as the juggins. I'm silly Billy, and that's what my friends call me. But my landlady thinks I'm a bit of a riot She treats me to whiskey and beer all de night I'm Muggins the juggins, And Muggins I'll always be. Additionally, another website has these lyrics: BILLY MUGGINS (Charles Ridgwell) My name is Billy Muggins, but for that I'm not to blame Some people say that I am just as silly as my name I'm working at a factory, my work mates never mix with me Each night they all go in the pub, while I go home and have some grub. CHORUS I'm Billy Muggins - commonly known as a Juggins Silly Billy, that's what my friends call me I'm quite content with my own little lot I mean to stick to the money I've got I'm Muggins the Juggins, and Muggins I'll always be... I had an invitation from some friends the other day They'd got a big card party on, so I went there to play When I arrived 'twas plain to see, a fool, they thought, they'd got in me But when I'd finished playing there, I'd won ten pounds I do declare. CHORUS I'm Billy Muggins - commonly known as a Juggins Silly Billy, that's what my friends call me When I had got their ten sov'reigns all right Why did I get up and bid them good night? I'm Muggins the Juggins, and Muggins I'll always be... My brother lost a breach of promise case, and had to pay The nice love-letters he wrote to the girl gave him away I courted once that self-same Miss, she might have breach of promised this Although I said she should be mine, to her I never wrote a line. CHORUS I'm Billy Muggins - commonly known as a Juggins Silly Billy, that's what my friends call me When she said love-letters gave her delight Why did I tell her I could not write? I'm Muggins the Juggins, and Muggins I'll always be... I never stay out late at night, I never want to roam My landlady is good to me, so Muggins stops at home My landlord thinks it only right for him to stop out late at night Why does he leave a chap like me to keep his missus company? CHORUS I'm Billy Muggins - commonly known as a Juggins Silly Billy, that's what my friends call me Why does my landlady call me a 'dear' Treat me to 'smokes' and to bottles of beer? I'm Muggins the Juggins, and Muggins I'll always be. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Billy Muggins/Rolling Round the World From: Lin in Kansas Date: 24 May 04 - 06:57 PM Billy Weeks-- Thanks for the info on "Sing Us One of the Old Songs." I wish I could afford the $90.00 price tag at Amazon; it sounds like a great reference. I don't have ready access to a public library. Guess I'll have to make a list of all the music hall lyric requests and do an omnibus copy job next visit. Lin Lin |

Ridgwell also wrote 'If those lips could only speak' and 'I'mShy, Mary Ellen, I'm Shy'. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Billy Muggins/Rolling Round the Worl From: GUEST,Mr Red Date: 30 Apr 02 - 07:47 AM We used to have a character in Wednesbury we called Billy Muggins, a half wit who left a tidy sum of money -all from his "tinkering" (literally) mending posts, pans, bicycle wheels etc and pushing his workshop around on a box shaped 2 wheeled cart - handle pointing forwards. Ideal fodder to write a song wanted to with "mutton chops" - looks like I may not need to now. Waiting for the rest of it.... |

Subject: Billy Muggins/Rolling Round the World From: GUEST,Martin Graebe Date: 08 May 01 - 02:02 AM I'd appreciate some help with a request made by a neighbour. He is looking for the lyrics for two music hall songs he remembers from younger days. The first is 'Billy Muggins' - first line 'My name is Billy Muggins, some say I'm a bit of a juggins'. An internet search reveals this to have been sung originally by Harry Bluff (around 1910)and more recently recorded by Chas and Dave. you can even listen to a bit of that recording on line but I don't think the whole song is there. The second is 'Rolling round the world', sung originally by Scott Sanders and recorded more recently by the Yetties. |
