Well - I suppose between the hair, the hat and a songbook, I could hide quite a bit anyway....

I did say I'd think about it.

THAT picture is six years old!!!(minimum) I'm probably back down to about that size (have gone from a 54 waist last june to about a 47 at the moment)- but the ren clothes hide a LOT...at least my peasant clothes do.

OOPS!

Mick, I forgot to mention that the photos were all taken by the wee'un's papa, James.

Yes, she's a sweetheart, that one!

Mario. ... on a diet? In the pic (though it*Was* a tiny one) you just look husky.

Hmmm... the mudcat Calendar as an incentive to lose weight, eh...? [giggle]

Lady P...

The cording was the EASY part (well except for pinning the loops onto the dress.) I'm way too impatient usually to Pin anything. I usually just fold over the cloth or whatever and put my foot down HARD on the pedal until I need to fold it over again. Works most times. This time, though I was showing Lissa how to do things so I had to use the blastit pins.

I only wish I had a photo of the dress BEFORE we put the cording on. What an amazing difference it made to the dress!

As far as running out of time goes. I get waaay too uptight around deadlines, so I make darn sure I get stuff done as far ahead as possible. ::grin::

Oh, and the shoes are her bedroom slippers. [chuckle]

MMario... You didn't answer my question about the Mudcat Calendar.... ;`)

I'm impressed, I like the shoes and I'm also impressed that you didn't get so bored/ ran out of time to put the cording on. that's what normally happens to me. Keep it up and I may have some orders for Lissa.

Mario: Cuuute!

Do you still have the beard? Are you in the calendar[waggles eyebrows] (which I *still* haven't ordered yet [sigh])?

Sorcha & Hollowfox: I myself am needle-impaired which is why I got myself an really expensive sewing machine that does all the thinking for me. (well, *some* of it) ;`)

Hesperis: [chuckle] Thanks!

Thanks, all, for the encouraging feedback.

~ Jande, (who will be incommunicado for the rest of the day)

Very, very nice, Lissa and Jande! Much better than my first attempt, and I STILL won't try Elzibethan or Italian Rennisiance, no way, no how. Hollowfox, PM my with your dimensions (mostly height, bust and approx weight.) I might have something I would give or lend you.Medieval stuff is very forgiving as far as actual size, and my stuff is all loose anyway.....For real, Mary from Mary. (We Marys have to stick together, ya know!)

Ooh! Then we will meet! (if we go). Archery is something I *definitely* intend to try my hand at. There's an archery supply place not too far from us here (I can't remember which direction from here, now) I ogle the place each time we drive by, waiting for it to open up.

BTW, I do suppose you mean Good Queen Bess (Elizabeth I)?

woops! I forgot to add - yes, her Majesty will be present each and every day of faire. She opens each day with a parade, introductions and then the opening of the pubs! (Huzzah!) There is another parade mid day, and she is present at all the jousts. She also shows up for the final Pub sing; and leads the exodus to the gates at close.

She *has* been known to stop by the archery booth for a friendly contest with members of her court; and I can tell you the lady is fearsome with a bow - even more so with an axe when she doth visit the "stupid hat" area near the axe throw.

yes - I will be there - most likely at the archery booth - but if I am not, I must needs return there within the (half)hour...on break I frequently can be found singing on the covered bridge...

see sterling festival site for schedule, times, etc. on the "Good friends" page, I am the judge standing behind the contestants pillow fighting on the log.

Hi Mario... I know we plan to attend a ren faire at some point this summer. And that one, Sterling, sounds familiar. So most likely, yes. You be there? Anyone else?

Lissa and I have decided that The Gown is probably too hot to wear for very long at a ren faire, so we're going to try to repeat this miraculous feat of creation in *much* thinner, lighter material. One (at least) for each of us, and something slightly more masculine for James. ;`)

Do you know if HMPM will actually be there?

By the way, WHEN is it?

So does this mean you might travel north to the shire of Warwick (Sterling, NY) during the Pleasure Faire for Her Most Puissant Majesty Elizabeth? (God Save the Queen!)

Well, we did it!

From Scratch. (Actually from some hunter-green velveteen drapery material I've been *meaning* to make curtains out of for a couple of years)

With no pattern. Just a cartoon drawing tht Lissa found somewhere on the internet.

Added some twisted green and gold cording for trim and one of my batikked scarves wrapped with cording as a waist tie.

Some of you may laugh, as we did when Lissa presented us with the honour of helping her make her self a costume for Medieval Night at her school. I rarely sew. I never use a pattern when I do, instead I tend to modify something that someone else (or some machine) has already made.

Well, it has taken three days so far. Starting with laying Lissa down on the material and drawing around her with one of those chalk pencils dressmakers use, to get the approximate size of the thing. (She loved that!) Then, with Lissa doing *most* of the work, cutting forming, trying on, pinning, trimming, seaming, hemming, and adding the finishing touches, the hours and hours of learning curve and concentration gave way to a beauty of a gown that any M'lady would be proud to appear in.

Lissa learned to use my pfaff power sewing machine in no time at all, and was a very careful sewer. She was a delight! I still smile every time she thought she'd try to get me to do a particularly tedious bit, and I would say "nice try, kid, but it is *your* project." She replied" Yeah, I know. But I don't have to like it! Then she paused and said "But the finished product will be worth it!" And it is!

If you want a peek, here are some pics of it:

Medieval Night is sometime around the 23 of May.

Our Lissa has much to be proud of.

(Why she's *almost* as creative and courageous as my own daughter... eh, Hes?) ::grin::

(I hope those BlueClickies turn out right this time!)
