No, I don't mean Bacsomb Lunsford in leather pants lip-synching on MTV. I mean any of the videotapes that are out there with great folk performances on them. I have seen a few from Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop, and I am in search of more. I can send a blank tape and the cost of mailing if whoever has some good stuff can dub it for me.

Stevangelist--

Don't know if this is what you're referring to in your comment on B.L., but there is a series called "Times Ain't What They Used to Be." Try your local library--?? B.L. is on there (doing a Cumberland Gap send-up), but so are others. Some is folk; some is jazz; some is cowboy. Personally, I liked #1 at least.

Stevangelest -
How long do you think companies like Stefan Grossman's Guitar Workshop are going to stay in business if you go around illegally copying their videos? BUY the damn things. If you can't afford it, you can't have it. Do you really think the people who make the little folk music videos can afford to not have your money? Do you really think you deserve to have something for free that someone else spent a lot of time and money producing? Sorry for the rant, but I work for a company that produces a few videos about folk music and I know how expensive it is, and how marginal the return is.

There was a series on the Canadian cable channel, Vision, called "Listen Up" that was a great spot light on canadina Singer/songwriters that had some great folkies on it... Garnet Rogers, James Keelaghan, Ian Tamblyn, Ferron, Stephen Fearing, just to name a few of my favorites...

Was a half hour format, a few songs, and them talking about the act of performing, and song writing... quite a good show... and if I could vhs to vhs, I'd be more than happy to share 'em... but alack alas...

This post is more just to tease I guess...

;-)

Thanks, guys.

Clint, I appreciate the tease :)

John P, apology accepted. There is really such a dearth of "homemade" music in the big city here that I sometimes get a little hungry for the good stuff. Thanks for putting my feet back on Earth.

I've seen ads for videos in Sing Out! magazine, Dirty Linen magazine, and I bet Andy's Front Hall (mail order house) would have some. I know Sing Out! is in the "links" section of the 'Cat, but I didn't have time to double-check on the other two. I know they both have websites, though.
