Subject: The Dublin Minstrel From: GUEST,Hal Wrobel Date: 10 May 01 - 03:17 AM Hi all, I really need the notation, or at least a midi, of "The Dublin Minstrel," a tune written in memorfy of Luke Kelly, and recorded by Paddy Reilly. If anyone knows who wrote it, I would appreciate that bit of knowledge as well. Thanks to whomever for the effort, Hal |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Dublin Minstrel From: Tiger Date: 10 May 01 - 08:23 AM Here it is, Hal. Nice song, really moves me. Paddy Reilly wrote it himself. If nobody comes up with the melody line, I'll figure out how to put that in, too. The Dublin Minstrel - Paddy Reilly
From Dublin's [C]streets and rows, all down the [F]years,
All 'round the markets and down the [F]quays, The sad [C]news spread to the liber-[G]tines. The minstrel [B]boy was gone, he'll sing no [F]more, And Luke, some-[C]how, we know we'll never [G]see your [G7]like a-[C]gain.
He liked to laugh and sing, he loved a jar,

Now the show is over, the curtain's down,

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Dublin Minstrel From: MartinRyan Date: 10 May 01 - 08:54 AM I suspect that the second line of the chorus should read "..to the Liberties.." (an area of inner city Dublin.) Mind you, the "libertines" might have been sad too! Regards |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Dublin Minstrel From: Tiger Date: 10 May 01 - 09:11 AM I think you're right, Martin - on both counts :-) I've never seen the words in print, so transcribed as best I could. Didn't know about "the Liberties", either, but now I've done my research. That's what's great about the 'Cat, and the web in general. Probably not Mondegreen material, but close. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Dublin Minstrel From: GUEST,Hal Date: 11 May 01 - 02:18 PM Tiger, Thanks much! By the way, it is Liberties, the neighborhood. If you can't come up with the notation, I guess I'll manage. I have a very good Celtic harp accompanist and my hope is she'll be able to figure it out without the notes. See you, Hal |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Dublin Minstrel From: GUEST,MIKEY K Date: 29 Jul 10 - 08:05 AM apparently this tune is copyright as I was informed by pro midi sequencers who can't make a pro midi as they can't find out who the writer is to get his permission. |
