Baby Taylor

Would like some opinion of the baby taylor guitar. I'm thinking of getting one to carry on my back biking, campouts, rides on the bus and the like. They have a spruce top and was thinking of getting the Koa back. I am concerned about the neck as it doesn't seem very strong.

Your thoughts or suggestion are appreciated

I dont know about the baby Taylor, but, my 810 has a truss rod which makes the neck quite strong. What were you going to do with it? It probably wouldn't be strong enough to repell boarders.

A friend of mine plays the Baby Taylor exclusively in performances and all. He bend the strings, plays VERY forcefully and generally makes the thing talk. The neck got set up when he bought it, and years later, I have played it and it is in tune every time, all the time. The neck is "strong like bull".

I have the Baby with spruce top with rosewood back. I went to Washington Music Center and played all the models. Koa came close to rosewood in volume but in my ear had the better tone. Then I played 4 or 5 rosewoods and chose the best. All similiar, but one was clearly superior. It has survived two upper luggage rack trips on an airplane and lots of play by three teenagers.

I think the neck will take anything any other guitar neck will take. It is light and should be handled lovingly.
