Subject: Lyr Add: I'D RATHER MAKE COFFEE THAN LOVE From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 11 May 01 - 12:04 PM I found the basic "I'd Rather Make Coffee Than Love" in the DT, but the three verses given seemed incomplete storywise, so I wrote the first verse given below. No tune was given, so I wrote one, and found the original two-line chorus inadequate, so I've added two lines to the chorus. The bold-faced parts below are my additions; ordinary typeface are as it appears in the DT. Now if I just had a way to submit my tune I'd be happy! I like to introduce this as "A song that points a moral: When you're looking for your one-and-only, be VERY careful where you find her! Dave Oesterreich
I'D RATHER MAKE COFFEE THAN LOVE He met her at Starbucks, he bought her a cup
Chorus:
Though he brought her sweet candy, a flower, a dove
cho:
She would even brew scrapings from overdone toast
cho:
He'd have given her Cuba for one litle kiss cho:

I would be happy to put it into a form that can be posted. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Expand: I'd rather make coffee than From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 11 May 01 - 03:54 PM MMario, my Beautiful Wife, who is the musician in the family, has volunteered to write it out in musical notation for me, and I can mail it to you. Mrzzy, I am also sort of proud of the second half of the third line of my introductory verse. Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Expand: I'd rather make coffee than From: MMario Date: 11 May 01 - 04:03 PM yes, I have to confess, DaveO put his comma in the wrong place... (I feel much better now - the agony of hiding the truth is over) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Expand: I'd rather make coffee than From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 11 May 01 - 06:24 PM Sorry to be a pedant, but there was no error with the comma. A comma comes after direct address, "Mmario". Then a comma between "my Beautiful Wife" and the explanatory phrase that follows, "who is the musician in the family", and again after that phrase. Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Expand: I'd rather make coffee than From: Charley Noble Date: 12 May 01 - 10:32 AM Just a passing thought: Then one I came home, found my stuff in the street, And a note on the door which filled me with grief, She'd met Juan Valdez, now her life was complete, She preferred making coffee to love. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Expand: I'd rather make coffee than From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 13 May 01 - 10:31 PM Charley Noble: A great verse to tie up the story. It needs to be third person, however, to fit with the rest of the song. I may well use it. I've sent the music to MMario. It may be he can submit it, as I can't. Dave Oesterreich |
