Subject: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: GUEST,bdenz Date: 12 May 01 - 05:20 PM The lyrics spot says there are two copies of this song but clicking on either one yields a "Sorry, no documents found" message. Anyone have the lyrics handy? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: GUEST Date: 12 May 01 - 05:54 PM I think you should bring this to the technical peoples' attention - maybe via the "help" section (click top left hand corner of page, beside "membership") |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: BDenz Date: 12 May 01 - 05:58 PM Done. Still need the lyrics probably faster than it will take to fix the request. Don't go out of your way, but if anyone's already got 'em on computer, I'd appreciate it. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: Joe Offer Date: 12 May 01 - 06:06 PM Hi, BDenz - you probably checked through our Titles list, which is a bit ornery. It's best to look for a phrase from the song. A search for bodkin and shears turns up: Hope that does the trick for you. We're working on fixing the titles list. -Joe Offer, tech guy- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: BDenz Date: 12 May 01 - 06:08 PM Joe -- thanks. Now they work. Feh. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: GUEST,Dancing Mom Date: 12 May 01 - 11:13 PM I had a hard time finding them, but there in there (DT). I printed them, hang on and I'll look for them in the house. S |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: GUEST,Dancing Mom Date: 12 May 01 - 11:52 PM Did you find it? I have them if you want them. Do the super search. It helps to enter a line of the lyrics, not necessarily the title. I entered, "How could you fancy a factory maid?" Sharon

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 13 May 01 - 09:24 AM Incidentally, they are both transcriptions made from the same recording by Steeleye Span, which was a collation of three completely different songs; the first one Joe linked to is full of mistakes (even the title is wrong), and is best ignored. The second is quite accurate. Verses 2-7 and 10 in the DT file are from the English traditional song, which was learnt from A.L. Lloyd; 8 and 9 are from a children's rhyme (source unspecified) and the first verse is a fragment from the repertoire of Robert Cinnamond of County Antrim, whose father had been a linen weaver. There is also a useful discussion here: the weaver and the factory maid, which I found by searching for weaver and the factory maid -through the "Digitrad and Forum Search", of course; I'd only use the title list as a last resort! Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: BDenz Date: 13 May 01 - 04:33 PM It's kind of lame when the title list needs to be the last resort, don't you think? Thanks all. Lyrics in my database and sent off to group members.

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Weaver and the Factory Maid From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 13 May 01 - 08:29 PM There are several different search facilities here; the one I recommended is the most recent and most powerful. Some of the older ones do offer possibilities which the more recent ones don't, so they all have their place in the scheme of things; it's a mistake to rely entirely on just one, though, and the Titles list does seem to have more than its share of glitches.
