Danny Mangold, of "Danny's Music" in Everett, Washington, was badly hurt in a car crash April 21. According to a newspaper article in the "Everett Herald," his store will be closed down. Apparently his injuries are so severe he won't be able to continue in business. For those that are not aquainted with Danny, he is a real shaker and mover in the music world on the West Coast. His background is strong in the area of Rock and Roll. He is known world wide as a collector of vintage instruments. He markets these through his website www.danny'smusic.com . His knowledge of stringed instruments of all kinds is phenomenal, and he has been a huge help to many upcoming musicians. Many times I've enjoyed just hanging out in his store and watching the interplay between Danny and those that walked in. I do hope he can recover. His dynamic and personality will be sorely missed. Bob (deckman) Nelson

Sorry to hear Bob.....I'd visited his site a few times although he was mainly electric, he always had few acoustic goodies.

My name is Tony Yardley and Danny Mangold was one of my best friends in high school back in the stone age in Fargo, ND. I've recently "reconnected" with him and we've been swapping email now for the past couple of years. I learned of his accident in a roundabout way. I am DESPARATE to learn of his condition. I would like to contact him and/or his family. So far I have had less-than-zero luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tony ... I probably won't be able to help you get in touch with Danny, but I can give you a little update. The car accident left him pretty damaged. As I understand it from newspaper stories and a little street gossip (none of which is too reliable) he suffered some permemant brain damage. I hear that this has resulted in occasional siezures of some type. About two weekends ago, there were two nights of fundraising concerts for Danny at the large Everett Performing Arts Center. These were sponsored by a host of music friends who have benefited from Danny over the years. I'm not into rock music, so I never got involved with Danny personally, other than using his music store as a good guitar resource. As I hear more about his condition, I will be glad to keep you updated. You can always contact me privatly. I hope this helps ... CHEERS, Bob(deckman)Nelson

I wonder if Bob will let us know the outcome of this story, since a guest has brought it back to the top?

Danny Mangold was an inspiration and a mentor to many musicians - young and old - who crossed his path.

He gave me a first-hand look at the history and future of rock music in the northwest. Many professional musicians whom I idolized would frequently visit their old friend while everyday patrons looked on with awe.

Danny was an honest man who loved music and was generous to those with an interest to finding their own way with an instrument. I bought my first 12-string from Danny and enough replacement strings to wrap around the world several times.

I too would like to know Danny's status and hope I can contribute somehow to his recovery or well-being, if it isn't too late.

I just noticed this thread again. I do not have much current information. But I did hear, about 6 months ago, that he was being a guitar salesman and a rep for one of the major brands of guitars. I think I remember that he's affiliated with a couple of large retail stores in the Seattle area. I hope this helps a little, Bob

I just stumbled across Danny's card in a box of relics. Everett is a world unto itself...I had to be there recently for a legal issue.... looked around, asked around, for the "fabulous guitar shop" -nobody knew nuthin'. That place was the only thing interesting about the entire town. I think it was his mom in the shop who was so kind, and FUN; "Marlys" ? Where did the guy go ? How is he now ? Just a good vibe, and some really cool equipment. I think I saw a Nirvana playlist in Kurdt's handwriting. Major loss. Goodbye, Everett.

When I was sixteen I begged my father for a bass guitar for Christmas... he wandered into Danny's Music and bought me my first Bass. I really miss Danny and that store. I still remember seeing the signatures of Seattle bands on the wall. I'd like to remember seeing the Foo Fighters signatures, but it's been a while. I feel bad to bring this up, but during the whole disaster of Danny and his car wreck I had a Black P-bass on consignment. The damn thing sold and I never got the money from it. Does anyone know of anybody I could contact to MAYBE get this straightened out. It's been a while... and I have let it go for a few years, but I'm REALLY hurting for cash (as is the whole nation).

-thank you,
joe

wow, people are still writing on this thread???
Danny is alive and well. Living in Seattle, selling, something....not guitars, probably suits.
He is fine.
He is as charming as ever, God bless him.

I am so happy to see this info on Danny. I think of him often and hope he's alright. He really turned on
my little boy,at that time little, to the fabulous world of guitars.
I am sure that there are those who may have lost a bit in the subsequent closure of the shop but he has been thru alot and I am sure there are many people like myself who would do about anything to help.
peace

In the early 90's I bought several things from danny at both stores, including a twin reverb and a 60's Fender Mustang. The first time I went in his store in 92 he showed me some of the guitars that he was selling to Kurt Cobain and he even showed me the receipt for the purchases Kurt had signed. I know one of the guitars was a Univox Mosrite copy.

danny is a cool guy. I met him in 1997 and he gave me a couple of Nirvana related items from the band.

He is selling suits at a mens store. His picture was in the paper a while back with another classic car, I think at T Bird.

I bought a guitar and an effects unit (that he programmed himself...still have it) from Danny and took lesson's at Danny's music also. I remember being in the store and chris novoselic and his brother came in and told me that i sounded good - that, along with Danny's encouragement inspired me. Kurt may have been there but i didn't look for or see him. Danny was a great guy. He and his wife commented on how my son (Alex Marshall) was going to be a famous musician with his name alone haha. Great people and great place to hang out. I miss Danny. He is a truly wonderful fella.

I just read through all of the posts and did not read anything negative. Seems like everyone thinks Danny was great guy and hoped he was better.

There was one poster who lost money on a consignment during the time of the accident and wondered if he how to go about contacting Danny to get reimbursed.

Did you actually read these posts?

I know I'm 10 years too late but...Here's how awesome Danny and Mom were. I started buying Les Paul's, Tele's, Martins & all sorts of guitars from him right after he opened. I can't remember who or how we got into contact but there was an immediate connection. He schooled me on what was not only cool now, but if still would still be cool in 20 years, or a good investment. He told me to buy up as many Les Paul juniors and speciAls when they were $400-$600 a pop for 58,59, and 1960 models. The first guitar I bought from him, almost at his insistance wAs a 1968 LP Goldtop with P-90's for $1500....it was 91/92 after all. I remember when he sold Van Morrisons 1959 Tobacco/honey burst to Mike McCready for 35k(which BTW everybody thought wAs insane cept Danny & Mike).

Danny & his mom, Marlys were so COOL to me, that when they said 'family', they really meant it. One time I had all my gear stolen out of my van, 3 guitars & my amp...EVERYTHING! Danny GAVE me an early 80's Gibson Explorer & an Orange 50watt 2x12 combo... What a guy!!! Even after I got locked up for things I did in active addiction, those guys always took my collect calls at the shop when I called from the pen. So cool!!!!

I heard a bunch of BS about Danny after this happened & I was so angered by this I had to just stay away or not write these stories down. I couldn't hold back the tears & I wanted to take it outside with whoever it was who were runnin their stupid mouths. That dude was in my top 5 most solid dudes I've ever been privileged enough to know. Marlys, rest her soul, was always mom to me!!!
