I've been after the words to this song for ages. It was sung on the Isle of Wight in the early 70's by Lauri Say. Does anyone know the words or have an updated version. It could do with resurrecting.

Noped - can't find it in a previous thread. Can somebody post it? Mary, is there anything else you recall of the song - phrases, the general story, or something? Titles aren't always the best way to find a song.

There's a song by that title on a David Wilcox album -- I believe it's on "How Did You Find Me Here?". Don't know if it's the same song or not; I wasn't under the impression that it was from the 1970's but I could be wrong. He does it as a fingerpicked blues/ragtime thing, and the lyrics are quite funny. Good luck.

Dunno when it was written but Trevor Carter wrote a song where the exec meets the Devil and the whole progression of the song is best described as "reducto ad absurdum".
Pete Coe sings it with absolute conviction
It is hilarious without a joke in it - except the payoff.
I think the butt of the song was an Adman.
if you are in to hardhitting entertaining songs search this one out.

The chorus went:

Oh! You hear it every morning and you hear it every night.
Over and over again.
Oh! The advertising man pours his message in your ear.
His slogans are pounding in your brain.

One verse was about eating breakfast.
Another snippet I can remember went something like:
Oh! A boy will look a real dream
When he smears his hair with Brylcreem
And he's got a RealBrook shirt that can't be beat.
And when he gives them all a thrill
With his Black and Decker drill
He has the girls all rolling at his feet.

Does this jog anyone's memory?
Please, please please someone out there must remember it surely. I would dearly love to find, restore and perform it during this festival season if possible.

The song you require was sung and recorded by Lauri Say in the sixties. There are a number of Corkheads who still remember this one and who meet at the Portland pub in Gurnard on the first Sunday of each month for a session (lunchtime) . Give them a try and Good Luck - from an ex-pat Islander.

Thanks Andy. I didn't realise that Lauri had actually written it. I thought he'd got it from someone on the mainland.

Are you the Andy that used to drive buses?

I used to be a clippy on Southern Vectis, hence the acronym. Now I am also an ex-pat. I'll drop the mob a line in Gurnard and see if I get anywhere.

Trevor Carter's song is call "the PR Man from Hell" and Pete Coe sang it at Alcester FF. It was better than I remember it.
and so true to the genre.
It is also about fat cats and water companies.

Hi I've just come across this as I was looking for The Floating Bridge Song Lyrics.

Here are the lyrics I can remember from my teens, when I played with Trislanders (Robin Holbrook, Jeff Taylor and Paul Elliott) back in the early '70s.

If anyone remembers any more, I would be glad to get hold of them.
