Subject: RE: BS: Zulu Nation From: katlaughing Date: 14 May 01 - 01:01 PM I think I've seen them on Later with Jools Holland on BBC. The link I found to their webpage didn't work, but I did find the following (assuming it is the same group:) The Zulu Nation, founded in 1973 by rap pioneers Afrika Bambaata. This organization is a "music, community service, and arts organization" founded under the belief of "freedom, justice, equality, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding". It's members come from "many different races, cultures, nationalities, countries, and religions". They are dedicated to severing the divisions that divide races and seaking the goal of unity through artistic expression, because they feel that "music is universal and crosses all barriers." I am more than pleased with this group and organization and what they represent/how they represent hip-hop culture. They are all about peace, harmony, and, most of all, responsibility. Many of the groups that have shaped contemporary hip-hop are members of the Zulu nation and have followed this ideology about the music and the culture. |

Subject: RE: BS: Zulu Nation From: nutty Date: 14 May 01 - 01:24 PM They are a group of young people who are obviously dedicated to the work they do ......... The link Wolfgang has provided says it all really ............. As I said previously , I was left with very positive impressions of the performance and the dancing and singing was wonderful ( super harmonies and rhythms ) Although, I think the memory I shall treasure most is the sight of them walking down the mainstreet in Holmfirth in leopard skins and head-dresses --- it's a good job the sun was shining. |

Subject: RE: BS: Zulu Nation From: GUEST,P.Boulby Date: 14 May 01 - 02:26 PM We had the pleasure of performing with the Zulu Nation at Wath Folk Festival ( Tatterfoals Morris Scunthorpe ) along with Wath Morris they came to the 3 or 4 pubs we visited and joined in the singarounds with us as well as contributing their own folk music. Needless to say the sound in the enclosed space of a pub baroom was absolutely amazing. They thourouly enjoyed themselves and we count ourselves very lucky to have had the experience. Anyone who has not taken the chance to see them is missing a real treat. Pete. |

Subject: RE: Zulu Nation From: Gervase Date: 16 May 01 - 05:38 AM Another cracking group is Black Umfolozi, from Zimbabwe. They've done Towersey for the past two years (including running a Zulu dance workshop - now that's a sight; hordes of sweating English folkies losing their inhibitions and stomping and ullulating across a marquee floor. A neat revenge for Rorke's Drift, I suppose!). |
