Oh, my...some birthday wish there *grin*

Which verse?

"O, woe betide the willow wand,
And woe betide the bush and briar For they broke beneath my true-love's hand,
When strength did fail and limbs did tire..."
AND MANY MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE...

er, it just doesn't scan. *grin*

great song, though!

M

Some fella this Nic Jones! Maybe I'm giving away my antiquity, but Nic Guested at our club in Hexham once or twice 'way, 'way back in the sixties [last century!!]. Besides the back-and-forth badinage about Rabbie Burns, two things stick in my memory; one was his rendition of " Barbara Allen"---the closest version to the Scottish one that I'd heard. The other was my first time of hearing , from any artiste, "the Lochmaben Harper". [Don't ask me for lyrics!] Quite a repertoire, quite a personality, quite a voice. Boab

Lochmaben Harper is here - both Martin Carthy's and the Mudcat's versions.
