Subject: Willie-o, Crowhugger, East Ontarians...

Hello W-O and CH and anyone else in the area who may be around.

I'm writing because I've just moved to Perth where I plan to spend 4 or 5 months. I was kind of hoping that you would fill me in a little on the local folk music scene. Willie-o, do you still organize concerts at the MC schoolhouse? Crowhugger, I believe you've mentioned going to a local open mike? I'd be glad to hear of any jam sessions or open mikes in Ottawa or Lanark County that you would recommend (I'm already familiar with Rasputin's schedule and the Glebe Celtic Slowjam).

Also, once I take care of the small matter of locating a source of income, I'd be glad to know any guitar or fiddle teachers that you recommend.

I also already know about the Stewart Park Festival... actually I'm playing in it... Saturday on the "acoustic stage".

And of course, PM me if you'd like to meet up to jam or whatever.

Thanks, Marion

Thank you, bert. I also thought of Perth, Scotland and Perth, NSW, Oz. I think she is talking about Perth, ON (Ontario) Canada, but I didn't know there was one of those, (grin). I also thought Crowhugger was in the US. Somewhere close to Canada, but US..........duh....I doan know!

I mean the Perth that is in Eastern Ontario, close to Ottawa, in Lanark County, that has a Stewart Park, and that is in striking distance of the Glebe and Rasputin's- as I vaguely hinted at in my original post :).

Our little Ontario can be very confusing....we have London, The Thames River, Essex, Stratford, Erin.....and on and on and on. But it's just Canada, folks.

Hey Marion, welcome to the Perth scene! This is great!

And all you yobs, quit yer bellyachin. Marion put it right in the subject line. East Ontario might be the wrong side of the tracks in a town in California, but it's not the Ontario that comes to mind first...

I might be playing at Stewart Pk on Saturday too, if the fiddle orchestra gets it together. (The Blue Skies Community Fiddle Orchestra, there's a Perth Fiddle Orchestra now too. They are both run by my pal Carolyn Stewart, who is _the_ fiddle teacher in town.

And get yourself over to Shadowfax and buy a ticket to the Pierre Schryer Band concert we're putting on in the Corners on June 16!

Send me a personal msg with your contact info and I'll be in touch. As for Crowhugger, she lives near To., comes round to visit her Mom and hang out. Haven't seen her for awhile.

W-O

OK OK, there are supposedly other Perths. I wouldn't know, I've never seen one. But Perth Ontario is special as the archetypal Ontario small town. It has a clocktower and a bandshell and even Canada's oldest municipal band (the Perth Citizen's Band). It has tons of heritage stone buildings, a great free music festival in a beautiful downtown park, (July 27-29) and best of all the town motto is "Make Haste Slowly". I ain't kidding.

I could have just said "refresh" but I'm feeling garrulous.

W-O
