Subject: RE: Martin Carthys Birthday From: Susanne (skw) Date: 19 May 01 - 06:07 PM Martin Carthy was the third British folk musician I discovered - after The Spinners and Hamish Imlach. I'm glad I made it that far! Martin's first album is one of my all-time favourites. I can't believe it's 35 years old! So, happy birthday, Martin, and all the best for the next sixty years (plus a thought for his wife, who also happens to be one of my favourite singers). |

Subject: RE: Martin Carthys Birthday From: Jim McLean Date: 11 Aug 02 - 04:36 PM I last saw Martin a couple of weeks ago at Bobby Davenport's 70th!! I met Martin in the early 60's when we lived in the same house, different flats, and my wife, Alison Chapman, took the only photo' of Martin with Bob Dylan in the Troubadour. A lovely man. Subject: RE: Martin Carthys Birthday From: Jim McLean Date: 12 Aug 02 - 01:57 PM Martin Carthy and Bob Davenport, Susan. Dylan wasn't my cup of tea. We were drinkers where Dylan was on the pot. To talk to him you had to hold him by the shoulders! My wife took pictures of 'folkies' in the Troubadour, London, during the early sixties and those were great days. Dylan's manager, Al Grossman, paid Anthea Joseph to record the acts and then they took the tapes back to their hotel and out came some 'new' songs! Cheers, Jim |
