Uncle Jaque, you can get rid of the Paltalk Automatic sign-on by right-clicking on the Paltalk icon on your startup tray. Click on "manual startup", and the little check mark will move to that, instead of being on "automatic sign-on". Then Paltalk will only start up when you double click on the icon.

Jacko, right click on the PopUp Killer icon in your tray and click on 'Preferences.' Under the 'Look and Feel' tab uncheck the 'Sound Effects' choice. There are also several other choices you can make to customize how the program works for you. I have it configured to be the least intrusive that's possible.

if you don't want paltalk to open and sign on automatically when you go online... .. take it out of your 'startup' section under 'programs'... Then it will only open when you click on the icon....

I'm a little annoyed by Paltalk's "automatic Sign-On" box that pops up as soon as i go online (dialup modem) when all i want to do is check the e-mail or some such. It is a minor irritation, as it can be quickly "swatted" away by clicking on the little "X".
Since I use Netscape as well, other popups are not an issue while using Paltalk. Once in a while it will open MS IE 5 automaticly, but once i close it it stays gone. I keep MS IE on board as there are the occasional websites (like "PC Pitstop System Tuneup") that will only work over IE - but otherwise seldom use it.
I may check out that "Popup Killer" for other sites that hit me with a blitzkreig barrage of 'em so quick that i can't swat 'em fast enough to keep up! I wonder if Sinsull's problem is getting her RAM overloaded with too many windows open at once. This used to happen a lot when we were at 64K of RAM, and still can now that we're up to 100K - but it is just a little more forgiving. Those popups can choke one of these older systems up pretty bad real quick, we have found.

1. IF this computer could do PalTalk, I'd be there almost 24 & 7. Hmm, maybe that's NOT a good thing....

2. But if the ads, etc. allow this free marvel of online songcircles with people all over the planet-- I wouldn't mind them, I'd just be grateful each time one intrudes. "Oh look, there's someone paying my way into this opportunity again!"

Just installed this, Ivan.....seems like a good idea, but i'm not too sure about the audio effects that accompany the popping-off :-))

Interestingly, I signed up for the popup-free and banner-free Paltalk, and I'm still getting popups and banners. Whether my signup went astray or what, I don't know - have to try again next time I'm on. I've emailed Paltalk about it 3 times, but they've yet to give me a reply (even an automated "we value your comments" one) which I'm not too impressed by.

I've noticed that we have fewer get togethers on Paltalk than we used to, and it's usually the same few people too... is there something we should know?

It may not have even been that, Sins. I get pop-ups now from Amazon.com, COWPIE, ESPN.com, and lots others. It has nothing to do with Paltalk.

Remember....ALT + F4 = Pop-up Killa!

The ads kept popping up even when I wasn't in Paltalk and froze my computer. I gave up in disgust.

the ads were on my netscape until I paid them the few bucks to support them without ads.

I just wish we still had a place to go on paltalk with some regularity. Toledo sometimes runs a mostly mudcat open room.

I've eventually had to upgrade Paltalk and was expecting to come face to face with the horrible banner ads and pop-ups that people had been complaining about ... but I haven't.

My browser is Netscape, and I have Zone Alarm installed as my firewall and it is configured to prevent Internet Explorer from accessing the internet.

It seems that the paltalk pop-ups are Internet Explorer based and as IE has no access to my computer it cannot place the ads on it

Is this making sense??
Just thought it might be of interest.
