Subject: My Island (?) by Liam Clancy From: Robby Date: 29 May 01 - 08:39 AM I have tried Google and Mudcat's super search for the lyrics to this songs without success. Although I did find an English translation from the Spanish chorus, which is: Some have islands in the sky, Some have islands in the sea, But my island's always here, And my dream is to be free, Sail away, boys, sail away. According to Clancy's jacket notes, the song is credited to Doug Lapham. If anyone can help on this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Robby |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Island (?) by Liam Clancy From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 Apr 02 - 08:59 PM Oddly, I have found these words only one place on the Internet, and that is for (apparently) an Argentinian day-care center called Instituto Celta! If you go to their page, some haunting Irish slow air will play, which sounds rather familiar to me, but I can't identify it. Is it the same song?
SAIL AWAY
NAVEGAR And, more oddly, that's the only place I can find the Spanish words, too. Meanwhile AMG informs me that "My Island" by Lapham, appears on Liam Clancy's "The Dutchman," Shanachie CD #52005.

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Island (?) by Liam Clancy From: GUEST,999 Date: 14 Sep 12 - 11:52 AM "Some have islands in the sky Some have islands in the sea But my island's always here And that's my hang-up: to be free Sail away, boy; sail away How often I have thought then tried to leave here? Make my berth; beat my feet And board the good ship Chance and make my voyage And sail all the way across the sea Sometimes I think and find that conscience is the most important thing to a man And though you've stayed and tried and died to live on a crowded beach of artificial sand" I found that at http://www.allthelyrics.com/forum/identify-it/20592-help-with-song-sail-away-boy-some-have-islands-in-the-sky.html """""""""""""""""""""""""" A bit further on that site another person says "My Island" was done by a Scottish(?) group called Farquahr. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Island (?) by Liam Clancy From: Anglo Date: 15 Sep 12 - 09:08 AM There are several threads about the Fabulous Farquahr from CT, who played the bars and clubs of Cape Cod and Mt. Snow VT in the 70s. The McGowan brothers and Doug Lapham who wrote most of their material. This song is My Island, on an undated Elektra LP simply called Farquahr. Copyright credit to My Island is to Jonathan Glenn/Hastings music though author credit (All songs written by...) is to Barnswallow Farquahr, a.k.a. Doug Lapham. |

Subject: Lyr Add: MY ISLAND (Liam Clancy) From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Jul 16 - 05:33 PM This is what it sounds like to me. I can't say I understand it, though. MY ISLAND As recorded by Liam Clancy on "The Dutchman" (2005) 1. An ocean of streets surround my island, And the waves of people wash against my door, And the tides of days and nights they go so slowly, And this bothers me for I know there's so much more. CHORUS: Some have islands in the sky; some have islands in the sea, But my island's always here and my dream is to be free Sail away, boys, sail away. Sail away, boys, sail away, 2. How often I have thought[fought?] and tried to leave here, Take my girl and beat my feet, And board the good ship Chance and make my voyage, And sail all the way across the street. CHORUS 3. Sometimes I think and find that conscience is The most important thing to a man: To know you've stayed and tried and died to live On a crowded beach of artificial sand. CHORUS Sail away, boys, sail away. Sail away, boys, sail away. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: My Island (Liam Clancy) From: GUEST Date: 22 Apr 21 - 09:53 PM i worked on the cape, Provincetown summer of 68 and went to hear the Farquahr Brothers play. My girlfriend dated Hummingbird or was it Condor? I had a friendship with Mary Farquahr , a non brother but male. they were great fun, so talented, real in the Provincetown not real kind of way. I had their album at one time. I never knew the origin of that song although the lyrics are haunting for all these decades. they came unfinished to me tonight as i was reaching out to a struggling friend and found this site. this is no help to original query but I was delighted to find the lyrics |
