Most of us U.S. folkies probably heard the Oscar Brand rendition on his Drinking Songs album back in the 1960's. My copy is long worn out, had a lovely picture of McSorley's Old Pub in NYC on the cover, a mecca I was finally able to visit when I turned 18, sawdust on the floor, sharp cheese and onion snacks, and lots of dust and cobwebs. Understand the place got all gussied up and that females are even permitted to enter now.
