Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Barry Finn Date: 20 Jun 01 - 03:11 AM Hi Ralphie & good for you with all you've done with the Jones. I would also love to get Nic's double CD when it arrives. And your mention of CM releases, I don't know alot of the history with this situation but from the little I do know if you told me who or what CM is I'd be happy to boycott them. You have right here at your disposal an international collection of folk music musicians & fans who probably would love to support Nic in this way. I'm in the U.S. my e-mail is ( ncrbf@worldnet.att.net ) Thanks, Barry |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 20 Jun 01 - 03:26 AM George....You're not wrong....but to paraphrase a well known death bed quote. "On the whole I'd rather be in Calcutta!" |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 20 Jun 01 - 07:25 AM What an uncurious lot the Mudcatters are . . No-one's asked what the hell we're going on about. Perhaps they're just too polite and restrained! Very English (but I thought this was a US forum . . .) Anyway, given the chance I'll buy you that pint at Sidmouth . . G |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 20 Jun 01 - 08:47 AM George... Maybe you can point Barry in the right direction re the whole sorry saga concerning Leader/Trailer/Transatlantic/Highway/Celtic Music....(Did I leave anyone out?) As for the other Catters out there...I've either buried this thread very successfully, or they've all concluded that I'm very slightly mad, and have decided to avoid me !! Quite right too, Radway Tavern Weds Lunchtime....1330 OK for you?? Ralphie |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Noreen Date: 20 Jun 01 - 09:55 AM OK, I'll be the fall guy...tell me about Carenas? Will I be sorry I asked? Noreen |

Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Noreen Date: 20 Jun 01 - 10:30 AM Ha- wondered where it had gone- you nicked it! |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 20 Jun 01 - 11:14 AM Noreen M'Dear...You'd have had to have been there! Many years ago at Sidmouth Fest I had the dubious honour of providing PA at "Carinas" night club for the entire 7 days....It was a blissfully sunny week, and all the walls were painted black, also, it was underground.....I was the only one who ended Sidmouth paler than at the start. Hey and thanks for asking....No fall guy necessary!! Love R xx |

Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: pavane Date: 21 Jun 01 - 03:03 AM Is there such a thing as Thread UNcreep, to get it back on track? |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GUEST,Terry Blankenship Date: 21 Jun 01 - 04:13 AM I was just listening to some Nic Jones and I can't wait until this new double Cd comes out. He is truly one of the best I have ever heard. It is a crime that his first 4 Cds are being held hostage by someone that won't put them out, or apparently let anyone else do it. I am pretty sure that this is the same person that is responsible for Dick Gaughan's Kist O' Gold Cd being out of print. I think I would just bootleg my own Cds if it were me. Good luck to you on this new project! Terry |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: pavane Date: 21 Jun 01 - 04:16 AM I just checked last night, and at least HALF of my vinyl collection is probably locked up in those vaults - Dransfields (Rout of the Blues), Nic Jones, Tony Rose, Peter Bellamy.... |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 21 Jun 01 - 05:02 AM Dear Terry & Neil....I'm a little man that for some unfathomable reason actually cares about all of this shit that's going down....And, consequently, will do all in my power to put things right. Listening to the NJ stuff as I'm typing this, with a tear in my eye....nuff said R xx |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: pavane Date: 21 Jun 01 - 05:07 AM I just ran off copies of the 'lost 4' on tape for a friend who recently discovered Nic - he will definitely be buying anything available, including the new double. Where do I get Unearthed? |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 21 Jun 01 - 05:25 AM I Know how tempting it is to do copies of Nic's stuff for other people;.....but...please remember that the family have been deprived of substantial amounts of cash over the last 20 years or so,,,,,GOD....I'm getting angry now.....Please,Please be patient...... I promise to let you all know how to get hold of the new CD just as soon as I can...I can do no more than that. With great humility.....Ralphie xx |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: pavane Date: 21 Jun 01 - 05:26 AM Sorry, thats the new one, I meant In Search of.. |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: pavane Date: 21 Jun 01 - 05:28 AM Oops sorry. Tell me where to send a donation. |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 21 Jun 01 - 05:32 AM To get Unearthed either let Ralph or mr have your email address (I'm only compiling a list for Ralph . . neither of us is always regular here . . ) [You can email me on ghawes@advaoptical.com). Ralph will let folks know when it's ready . . As for the Bulmer/Celtic Music saga - I'll try to post a brief outline as a new thread . . the trouble a number of us face is knowing what we can say publicly as opposed to what we've been told "in confidence", where there may be good reasons for not going public. Yes, it is the same saga that has Kist o'gold out of print, and the original M Simpson, and had the magnificent "Simpson and Friend" recording on Waterfront BRIEFLY out on CD and then lost again . . . (Can't think of its title; I always think of it as "Desperados waiting for a train"). As for Carinas . . With typical modesty Ralph leaves out a couple of significant details (as I recall). Like - he was supposed to be down there on holiday, and was asked if he could help the festival out of a hole by looking after the sound in there for one day . . . As he says, at the end of the week he staggered out of the black hole, having had a less than restful "holiday". Oh, Radway Wednesday sounds great . . . subject to it not clashing with Chris's workshops. You WILL invite Colin, won't you?? (And I'll try to ensure our "little" daughter comes along, too . . ) G.

Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 21 Jun 01 - 05:42 AM George Old Bean...!! Yes of course I'll ask Colin.....See you there....Can't wait...and as for your other comments....I couldn't possibly comment. Yo.....Ralphie |

Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 21 Jun 01 - 09:03 AM Bulmer/Celtic Music saga summary now posted as a new thread . . Now it's time I did some work (before my boss notices that what I've been typing ISN'T our new User Manual!!) Cheers! G |

Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GUEST,Dita (at work) Date: 29 Jun 01 - 10:03 AM By the way GeorgeH, the Martin Simpson, album with "Desperadoes" on Waterfront, (I think it was his second LP) was called "Special Agent" love, john. |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 29 Jun 01 - 11:41 AM Thanks Dita/John . . Was that REALLY only his second album?? Was Golden Vanity the only Leader/Trailer album then? I thought Special Agent was after he was duoing with June Tabor . . certainly it's the album with the Andy Cronshaw "usual suspects" . . Ralphie, too, will remmeber those days well . . . Especially (I hope) the "Andy Cronshaw and . . " with June Tabor where she sang "Catch a falling star" as the encore to a concert which is one of those magical memories (was it in the Bloomsbury or the Shaw Theatre). I seem to recall a pretty exceptional sound engineer that evening . . . (atually I recall seeing the sound engineer in the interval and us all being near tears at the sheer beauty and power of it . . ) G. |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 29 Jun 01 - 05:07 PM Mmmm George.. Shaw or Bloomsbury? Slight memory.....MMMMM!! Mind you...you are younger than me.. R x |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 02 Jul 01 - 05:15 AM Not as I recall . . isn't Tina a 50th present to you? That makes you the younger by a couple of years . . Then again, I have more difficulty remembering what I did YESTERDAY! G. |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 02 Jul 01 - 04:06 PM George...Ok Ok...and yes, 'tina is being constucted, 'een as I speak... By the way...looked at the Celtic thread recently? Cheers Ralphie |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Micca Date: 02 Jul 01 - 05:56 PM Ralphie, add my name to the list, I too am a fan...and aas I live quite near (Plaistow)I can collect in person!!!! |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 03 Jul 01 - 05:56 AM Ralphie, dearest, we must stop meeting like this . . Yes, just caught up with the CM thread and am currently spitting blood . . . and feeling pretty upset at the same time . . Micca . . I'm not sure Ralphie's doing the distribution of the new CD . . . However collecting from him personally sounds a good idea . . where's a good pub for a session round your way, Ralph - and do we get invited to Tina's christening? Cheers! G. |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GUEST,Dita (at work) Date: 03 Jul 01 - 08:46 AM GeorgeH, stop spitting blood over Anon, and get back to Martin Simpson. As far as I'm aware "Golden Vanity" was the only Trailer release, then after a gap of a couple or three years it was "A Cut Above", with JT. Then "Special Agent", with the usual suspects from "Cut", then back to Topic for "Grinning in your face" and "Sad and High Kicking", I never got to see him up in Scotland until the early 80's but Fred Wood's had made such a fuss about him, I had bought "Vanity" years before. Now stop all that blood spiting, that's just what he's looking for, love, john. |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 03 Jul 01 - 09:00 AM Dita . . thanks, but it's hard . . Yes, you are right . . I checked the info. on "Special Agent". I was surprised there was no recording between Golden Vanity and Special Agent - especially since "Special Agent" was more-or-less a "side project" from his mainstream solo work of that time. (To me, Special Agent really sits alongside the second Andy Cronshaw Topic album, rather than being representative of Martin's work in the folk clubs of that time.) I can't remember the year I first saw Martin . . however, it was the 2nd Bracknell Folk Festival, and that weekend was also the first time I saw June Tabor (this was some years before they were working together . . ) One thing I love about Martin and June is that there's nothing of the celebrity about them . . they are delightful people as well as sublime performers . . Oh, and unless I'm very much mistaken Guest is a she . . her prejudices have finally given her away. But thanks for the kind and calming words! They are appreciated, very much. And you've managed to switch me onto thinking pleasent thoughts. G. |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 17 Jul 01 - 07:19 AM Refresh Please ignore later unpleasentness . . G. |

Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: Ralphie Date: 23 Jul 01 - 04:40 PM Lainey...No one has ever called me Ralphette before...(Going red with embarrassment!!)...Track order for both CD's now finalised....But....You'll all just have to wait a teensy bit longer..... any Mudcatters at Sidmouth Fest though may be in for a very pleasant surprise....Ho Ho Ho Ralphie LOL xxx |
Subject: RE: New Nic Jones (Double) CD From: GeorgeH Date: 24 Jul 01 - 04:53 AM "Ralphette and the Fraser Sisters" . . Now that does have a certain ring to it . . G. |
