Subject: RE: **IAN** sam & bill heading to CATSPAW'S! From: Sam Pirt Date: 07 Jun 01 - 06:52 PM from Gill - Sam's mum It's good to see lots of action still. Which thread(s) will take over from this? I think when Sam gets back home I'll be tempted to stay with this www thing - Mudcat being at the top of my list! I feel pretty good too - getting the hang of it now. Connie e-mailed me the following which I'm hoping to copy and send out to Mudcat - Oh darn it (does that sound a bit American?) and I've even vowed to stop swearing - it didn't work. Let me see if I can send it to Jellybeam and see what Ian's family can do with it. And hello to Ian and Bill - and of course to our Sam too. I'm just going to look at a thread about your smile Sam - bet it will be even smilier after your adventures. Love to all - Gill |

Subject: RE: **IAN** sam & bill heading to CATSPAW'S! From: Tyler Date: 07 Jun 01 - 04:01 PM O.K Bill, you've convinced me to join Mudcat and spin my first thread, now please respond and let me know what to do with your effigy! Bob (sometimes resident artist at the Press Room sessions, Portsmouth N.H) Nielson's large drawings- one of you and Ian & one of Sam, with instruments, currently have pride of uncrumpled place on the front seat of my car. Do you want me to preserve them until your next visit or send them to a location of your choice? By the way, I went to a session on Tuesday where people were already playing some of the "new" tunes they'd heard you all play on Friday- so your influence spreads. Thanks for reminding me of "Whistling Rufus". Now if I could just remember how to start "Shuffling Samuel" my old set from student ceilidhs in Scotland would be complete! Cheers, Tyler |

Connie just sent this, too. I thought it was pretty funny and we both wanted to share it with Ian and Sam: I thought that in all the finer points that Bill is teaching the lads that they might want to include this for making observational notes as they travel around.

Subject: RE: **IAN** sam & bill heading to CATSPAW'S! From: katlaughing Date: 07 Jun 01 - 02:01 PM This just in from Connie. Her email has been acting up, destroying all of her addys even after saving, so I had to send her one, last night, so she'd have mine, again. Anyhow, news from the fellahs and from Connie: Bill sends regards to all. Tues after leaving Rick's they traveled to Niagara Falls stayed on the Canadian side; among other things toured the Ripleys Believe It or Not Museum. Ian rested while Sam and Bill "walked to the U.S." They were able to view "the illumination of the Falls" and enjoyed it. They all arrived safe and sound last night in time for a barbecue...western BBQ ribs, Brats (from the local Bremen meat shop Rheinschield family...so they are rather German in taste); macaroni salad, cole slaw, kraut, potato chips and corn chips. As it was our youngest son's birthday we had birthday cake for him and an early birthday for Spaw. They will be traveling to Strougsburg, Pennsylvania in a few minutes...about a 7 hour drive. Then tomorrow they will view the Martin guitar factory. Then they will cross to Sea Bright, New Jersey -- Annamill's. All are still well. We listened to wonderful music until 1:30 a.m. Our son said that it was the very BEST birthday that he has ever had. Bill reports that the best US tea is awful. So Ian treated us to some Yorkshire tea...Bill was quite right!!! YUM! For breakfast, they had rice grits, our variation on the "famous Southern staple". I will have to trust a true Southerner to the honor of serving them the real thing on another visit. We have had a wonderful visit and of course we would like for them to stay longer. As yet we have no word on how Pat is doing with his"total rehab". Karen always calls us and lets us know how he has come through procedures and surgeries. I will post to you as soon as I know. Love to All! and thanks to Kat for posting this to the mudcatters. Connie To Sam's and Ian's parents: Your son's are delightful! They have been so kind and polite, genuine, easy to please, and eager to experience our area of the country's food. They are thoughtful, pleasant young men...and all of that in addition to such musical talent and skill. They so graciously explained to our sons how to play the piano accordion and melodion as well as the differences in them. They even helped our sons to play a little bit. This totally "made their day". We are so honored to have the wonderful opportunity to spend time with Bill, Sam, and Ian...and have the chance to get to know them a bit. Thank you for loaning them to us. I am at a loss for words to describe how pleasant our last few hours have been...it has been like a vacation...the music has been good for the soul. Bill is taking good care of them, and teaching them the American nuances, as well as serving as an interpreter as necessary.
We hope to some day meet you all. ______________________________ |

Subject: RE: **IAN** sam & bill heading to CATSPAW'S! From: katlaughing Date: 06 Jun 01 - 11:52 PM Oh, MY! Just had a call from Connie's! LOTS of music coming through. Connie and I talked and she was so thrilled about her older boys learning some new things from Ian and Sam, esp. drumming; she said they can come back anytime as long as they play while she cooks for them! There is a theatre just down the road from her, which is part of a venerable old library and they've decided it is just the type of venue for such as Bill, Ian, and Sam and that next time they come over they'll have to present a program there. Spaw was down to his last 20 minutes of eating time before he has to give it up for the oral rehab, tomorrow. I told Connie oral rehab meant there'd be no more swear words out of his mouth. Hahaha!! He sounded good but was headed off ta bed shortly as he has to get up at 4am in order to pick Karen up from work, then head over to the hospital for his date with the oral surgeons. Ian and Sam sounded wonderful, taking the piss outta each other and just lovely to me over the phone. Spaw and Connie were really singing their praises. It will be wonderful to meet them next time round. Bill, well, you know, Bill is so special. Had a lovely visit with him. I told him he HAS to be THE Mudcat Ambassador At Large. He is like a rock rolling along gathering up all in his wake, sharing so much with each other in that laid back unassuming way of his. What a incredible friend and musician. Like us, they are going to try to make it to the Getaway, finances and all providin'. It sounds like this could be a really good year for Mudcatters there. I told them we're all looking forward to them being on Mudcat radio. Bill said they will drive through the night from there to Animaterra's, as they play at her school the next afternoon. I could hear first Ian, then Sam playing in the background, as well as Bill and it was just incredible. Can't wait to *see* them on the radio, too! Thanks, Spaw and Connie, for the phone call. Love to you all and safe journeys. Spaw...open wide and know that we'll be there with you tomorrow, darlin'.... luvyakat |
Subject: RE: **IAN** sam & bill heading to CATSPAW'S! From: Naemanson Date: 06 Jun 01 - 10:07 PM Glad to know they have arrived safely at Spawville. Now if they can survive without being totally corrupted by Spaw, Cletus, and the Reg Boys. I'm sure KarenSpaw will help protect them and the kids will keep them active and out of Spaw's direct influence. Obviously, if they are flying frisbees then it has quite raining in Ohio. Nice to know that. They need a weather break. |
Subject: RE: **IAN** sam & bill heading to CATSPAW'S! From: Big Mick Date: 06 Jun 01 - 09:45 PM Well folks, I just got off the phone with the lot of them. It appears that PatSpaw has them firmly indoctrinated into the Layabout Kwon Do. The lads are fed, and are having a ball. Spaw sez that Ian and Sam can't make up there minds whether they like playing music or playing frisbee with the boys more. So they just do both. Outside for a few minutes of Frisbee.......in the door for music and munchies.........out the door for Frisbee and the whole thing starts over. I spoke with all of them and I advise you older Catters to get plenty of rest prior to them getting there. Sam, and especially Ian, seem to have the constitution of bumblebees.........I got tired just talking to them. All kidding aside, they were perfectly charming lads to speak with, and I am profoundly sad that I had my schedule changed at the last minute. I would have loved to have sat and made music with these fine lads. And Bill, what can I say, he is still Bill. A wonderful man that I am proud to call my friend. It was wonderful to hear his voice. I can't wait to hear the radio show. All the best, Mick |

I think I have an idea why they never seem to eat. They probably drink so much tea they have to stop at every rest area, and then they stuff themselves at McDonald's, Wendy's and Bob's Big Boy. When they get to wherever the're going, they're full of cheeseburgers and greasy fries. |
