Subject: Attn UK Catters: Burns on jazz From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 07 Jun 01 - 04:19 AM Ken Burns, who did the celebrated documentary on tne (American) Civil War, has now given jazz (& the blues) the treatment. The first episode goes out in the UK at 7pm, Saturday 9 June on BBC2. It's already gone out stateside, giving rise to two excellent threads. (Start here to access both.) The consensus seems to be that it's a must-see series for anyone halfway interested in the subject, but a bit lightweight and opinionated, and not coming up to expectations created by that Civil War film. |

Subject: RE: Attn UK Catters: Burns on jazz From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 07 Jun 01 - 04:33 AM Most of the episodes seem to be scheduled to start at 11.30 at night so this poor old, tired (still)working man will have to video them. As they're just over an hour each I'm sure to miss some. Assuming they're chronological I'll concentrate on the early ones. I know from the US 'Catters' comments that it is a flawed series but there is so little jazz on UK tv that I'll grab what I can get! RtS "When it's sleepy time down South") |

Subject: RE: Attn UK Catters: Burns on jazz From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 07 Jun 01 - 07:06 PM Thanks Roger - sounds like the peripherals could be better value than the show itself. Where do you find air times beyond a week or so ahead? Switching from 7pm to 11.30pm seems a bit unusual, but stranger things have happened. |
