For Willie the spider had too many legs.
He had dozens of shoes neatly hung up on pegs.
So my little friends, here's a lesson for you;
Don't grumble each time that you put on your shoe.

Those are the only lyrics I can remember. I've been looking for it myself. If anyone finds a recording, please email me at RBHorn1@gmail.com

As part of celebrating my Dad's life - I am compiling the lyrics to all the songs he taught and sang to his children and grandchildren. It is interesting to see the "real words" to some of the songs that are so near and dear to my heart. Willy the Spider indeed was an all time favorite. To check my memory, I read through the threads from all the people who posted bits over the past years - thank you!
Below is the version that my family sang and will continue to sing, happily, joyfully, and faithfully.

Willie the Spider – Pop's Version

Little Willy the Spider wouldn't get out of bed.
He yawned the whole morning and scratched on his head.
He had so many legs that it gave him the blues.
All he did the whole morning was put on his shoes.

Oh Willy the spider had too many legs.
He had dozens of shoes neatly hung up on pegs.

He got up one morning while it was still dark,
He tied all his shoes on just for a lark.
He ran down the stairs with a smile on his face,
And CRASH he landed when he tripped on a lace.

Oh, Willy the spider had too many legs.
He had dozens of shoes neatly hung up on pegs.

So, my little friends, here's a lesson for you:
Don't grumble each time that you put on two shoes.

I ALWAYS loved this song! I think of it when I get motivated to go to the gym or walking in the early morning before it's completely light outside. I sing it to myself when I put on my tennis shoes! I'm 58 yrs old and had this record as a child. I'm so glad I thought to go on google tonight to start tracking down the song "Willy the Spider". Thank you!

WOW! I thought that I was the only one that clearly remembers this song! It was one of my favorites as a child and I still remember the words and the period orchestra music in the background! I'd love to find an MP3 or download of it ! PRICELESS MEMORIES!

I just found this link tonight and I, too, sang Willie the Spider back in 1962 as a child in a talent show. My older sister taught me the song. Don't know where she got it. But, I just saw the lyrics and I remember the tune. I am 62 and just sang it to my husband. Whoever found the lyrics, thank you, thank you so much.

Thus is it!! THe rest of you were missing pieces.

WILLY THE SPIDER

Little Willie the spider wouldn't get out of bed.
He Yawned the whole morning and scratched on his head.
He had so many legs that it gave him the blues.
All he did the whole morning was put on his shoes.

By the time he got up and had tied every lace
He was so tired & weary it shone in his face
When the last shoe was tied up the whole day was done
And willy the spider did not have much fun

He woke up one morning when it was still dark
And tied all his shoes on just for a lark.
He ran down the stairs with a smile on his face
And fell with a CRASH when he tripped on a lace.

Yes willy the Spider had too many legs
He had dozens of shoes neatly hung up on pegs
So my little friends here's a lesson for you,
Don't grumble each time that you put on your shoes

I stumbled on this Site as I was looking for words to some songs. I still own "Tops in Pops" (orange giraffe) and "Folk songs for kiddies" (yellow giraffe). Santa gave these albums to my two brothers one sister and me back in the 60's. Still have them. Well worn but as I now have a 9 month old grandaughter, We will not lose great songs to this new aged yuppy stuff that is supposed to nurture but I think is ridiculous. The innocent songs on these albums, that I heard and still hum to my grandaughter, will not die off and be lost. Still can't find the written lyrics to them on the internet but I stumble through what I remember until I get a Record Player set up in my new home. I love that Gary, Scotty's son, found this Site. Internet is wonderful!

"The Little man" "Animals went to the Park" "The bell that went ting-a-ling-a-ling" Good times... yeah I gotta get the record player set up.

My wife just talked about hearing these songs from her childhood. I was searching for a way to acquire these songs. I was looking at amazon, then searched youtube... I'm coming up with nothing, not even the 78 archive on archive.org.... Has anyone converted it to digital? Gary do you have he rights to the songs and can redistribute? I'm willing to purchase the album, I just don't have a record player, so digital is always preferred. :)

My sister, Shelley, found the words to Willy the spider. She even sang it on a text to me. She supposed to post them here. If not I will try to copy and paste. She posted them on Facebook.

Subject: Lyrics for ‘50’s kid song “Daniel the Spaniel” ?
From: GUEST,Ukantseme
Date: 04 Oct 18 - 06:57 PM

Daniel the Spaniel - I loved this song in the early-mid ‘50’s - Had the record and played it till it my mother hated it. All I can recall:

Bow wow, meow,
Oh no, no, not that
It’s Daniel the Spaniel and he’s after the cat.

There goes that runaway loafer
Back to his hideaway
Under the sofa.

Something about a new hat; chasing a car or a mailman?

. . .but I’ll have the last laugh
On Daniel the Spaniel
‘Cuz it’s time for his bath

I would love to sing this to my grandson, but cannot find the lyrics lost in my memory and time.

I'm 60 years old now. My dad bought me this album when I was a kid sick with the measles. " Children's Songs for a Rainy Day". Willy the Spider, Barney the Bashful Bullfrog, Fuzzy Wuzzy (wuz a bear), The DoDo Bird in the Banyan Tree, The Fox and His Friends, Willie The Whistling Giraffe, Wilbur the Wiggly Worm, Them, Peewee the Kiwi Bird, and Mister Boogie Woogie.

Sung by: Rosemary Clooney, Gene Autry, Art Carney, Tom Glazer, and Bob Hannon.

It's a blessing to reflect on those innocent times.

Willie the Spider became part of my family’s lore. I fell recently and was telling my sister about it. She asked, “Did you fall with a CRASH when you tripped on a lace?” ??
?
I’m 64 and she’s 59.

Like others on this thread, I’d love to hear that song and others from the Rainy Day album.

Thanks to all who remembered and took the trouble to type them. You just made the day for a 93 year old who was struggling to recall the words to Willie the Spider.
