Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: Jim Dixon Date: 04 Oct 06 - 11:16 PM ASCAP says WILLY THE SPIDER was written by Irvine T. Macgregor, who wrote a lot of children's songs. Unfortunately, I can't find any other reference to Irvine T. Macgregor. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: GUEST Date: 03 Oct 06 - 12:47 PM I was looking for the lyrics to this sonf when I ran across this string. i used to listen to this song on Captain Kangaroo "Willie the spider had too many legs, he had dozens of shoes he had hung up on pegs, so my little friend here's a lesson for you, don't grumble each time that you put on your shoes." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: C-flat Date: 03 Oct 03 - 02:50 PM I seem to remember reading this in the last couple of years to my daughter. I'll have a rummage through her old books and see if I can turn it up. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: Cool Beans Date: 03 Oct 03 - 10:44 AM It's definitely pre-Capt. Kangaroo; I had the record when I was very young, well before the Captain hit the tube. All I remember are the opening lines, with a slight difference from RangerSteve's recollection: "Now, Willie the Spider had too many legs, and dozens of shoes neatly hung up on pegs..." It scans better. I do remember feeling bad for Willie but not why. Thanks for clearing that up. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: Amos Date: 02 Oct 03 - 06:12 PM The guy who put up this Captain Kangaroo Page might be able to help and gives a couple of other leads as well. No lyrics yet but the trail is not dead. A http://www.streetcarmike.com/kangaroo.html |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: Bill D Date: 02 Oct 03 - 04:47 PM that's the sort of song that might have been written just for the Captain Kangaroo show and maybe issued by the producers. Small circulation can equal oblivion. It is obviously not a 'classic', and though there may be the odd copy somewhere, if THIS bunch doesn't know it, you may look for a good while... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: GUEST,Hanna Date: 03 Sep 03 - 09:39 PM i too have been looking for the lyrics to "Willie, the Spider". My search sent me here. I see that the last date was in January. Has anyone found it since then? I remember hearing it on the Captain Kangaroo show. I would love to be able to find it. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: Ebbie Date: 17 Jan 03 - 12:51 PM It appears (on google) that Captain Kangaroo did a Willy the Spider song or recitation with that theme on. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: RangerSteve Date: 08 Jun 01 - 08:08 AM Thanks, MMario, that's as close as anyone has gotten so far. Were the references on the internet? if so, where? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: MMario Date: 08 Jun 01 - 07:54 AM I found references to it - jus tnot any lyrics or recording posted. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: RangerSteve Date: 07 Jun 01 - 10:21 PM Thanks to the folks who answered my request, even if you couldn't help. Maybe I'm the only one who owned a copy of that record. I'll keep on hoping someone will remember the tune. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: MMario Date: 07 Jun 01 - 09:50 AM I also searched on "spider had too many legs" and "little shoes hung up neatly" |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: Sorcha Date: 07 Jun 01 - 09:34 AM I used "children's songs" on Google; I found a lot of neat pages, but no Willie/y the Spider........ |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Willie the Spider From: MMario Date: 07 Jun 01 - 09:02 AM no luck on google - though the computer game Quake has a new monster known as "Willy the Spider" |
Subject: Willie the Spider From: RangerSteve Date: 07 Jun 01 - 08:45 AM I'm looking for the lyrics to a childrens song called "Willie the Spider". The first lines are: "Willie the Spider had too many legs and lots of little shoes hung up neatly on pegs". It goes on to say that by the time he had all his shoes put on and laced that "it was time for poor Willie to go back to bed". It's an important message for all children, i.e. life is one futile thing after another. This is the first record I remember owning. I can remember the color of the record label (tan with brown lettering) and the brand of phonograph (Birch) after 45 years, but not the important thing - the lyrics. Can anyone help me? |
