Splendid! We didn't get to see nearly everything we wanted to see. So now we are planning the return trip. :-)

Wow! Thanks everybody. Ed, we are planning on going to Jamestown AND Yorktown. I think we will have to skip Busch Gardens this time but it does look like fun.

You know, you got me going here. Enough of the wine.

Once you are east of Richmond heading toward Williamsburg, bear south onto Route 5. You should be able to take 5 all the way in to W'Burg. There are many plantations on this road, most of whom offer tours. Check out Berkley & Sherwood Forest.

Yorktown is quite close to Williamsburg via the Jamestown Parkway (just to the east). The park service folks have done a good job at the Victory Center with intrepretive exhibits of life during the revolutionary war. Additionally, the battlefield tour is cool as well as a stroll through Yorktown itself. After you and Mister finish your Yorktown touring, get thee to the river and Nick's Seafood. Haven't been in a while but the food used to be great and the decor is worth the trip.

Jamestown is also close to W'burg. They seem to be digging new stuff up all the time.

For the plastic paddy in all of us, Busch Gardens has recently opened the "Ireland" section of their theme park.

Finally, unless Mister is prone to suicide, consider the Williamsburg Pottery which is a collection of outlet stores. Personally, I'd rather gnaw my arm off then go there, but to each there own.

Also, if you stop in Richmond, please check out Rare Olde Times in the 'west end'. Friday and Saturday feature Andy and Cindy and then some for "contemporary traditional" irish tunes.

Let us know how it went upon your return.

Ed

I will try those out! I am not much of a red drinker anyhow. But Stonewall Vineyards makes a spiced mead called Pyment - we aren't going their way but several shops in VA sell their stuff.

Oakencroft sounds familiar... I might have been there once before but I don't have a glass to prove it.

Mostly I like wines that are somewhere in between sugar water and dry as tree bark. Narrows it down, huh?

Okay, now I'm REALLY excited about going. ;-)

Well, C'Ville's gotta bunch. Stay away from Oakencroft; I think the others are Ok as long as you stick to the whites. VA is not ready for red. Jefferson has the nicest sized tasting glasses. Interestingly enough, I don't care for the Williamsburg Winery offerings, but everyone has a different taste.

I think Prince Michael is not to far North of C'Ville on 29. They're pretty good. See if you can get Rapidan Reisling at Prince Michael and Sweet Country White at Whitehall. The VA ABC stores also carry VA wine...

UB Ed, awhile back I printed up a whole list of wineries. Mister's got it somewhere in the travel stuff. I like to visit wineries and have a taste and buy a glass. I have a pretty good little collection of winery glasses. :-)

Kim, on the way to Williamsburg there are two good (among many other) wineries near Charlottesville. Jefferson is near Monticello and fairly easy to reach from I 64. Whitehall is northwest of C'Ville. I'm running now, but I'm sure if you search on Virginia and Wine, you can get good directions.

Have a great trip.

Ed

Try the Welsh Rarebit at Chowning's Tavern in Williamsburg. I think it's on Duke of Gloucester Street, but I'm not certain. It's been years since I've had it, but I remember it fondly.

As of 5pm CST this evening (Thursday), I am ON VACATION! Unlike MMArio in his travels, I will not have access to a computer. (arrrggggghhhh) Anyway Mister and I will be enjoying ourselves in Colonial Williamsburg, VA, and if anyone has any recommendations for anything, let me know. I'll be back at my desk Monday the 18th.

Cheers---- Kim
