Got here from the PermaThread of Unanswered Requests. Great idea!

Anyway, here are the lyrics to the song. The parts in () continue throughout the entire song in the same manner as the first two verses.

BOUND FOR ST. PETERS

We're bound for St. Peters for baccy and rum.
(Goodbye, fare ye well, goodbye, fare ye well.)
We're bound for St. Peters for baccy and rum.
(Hurrah, me boys, we're homeward bound.)

And when we are hauling up to the dock
(Goodbye, fare ye well, goodbye, fare ye well)
All the girls and the boys around us will flock.
(Hurrah, me boys, we're homeward bound.)

And one to the other you'll hear them all say,
"Here comes jolly Jack and his 18 months’ pay."

And when we are landed, we'll jump all ashore,
And head for the tavern. We'll walk in that door.

The landlord will greet us, his face all a smile,
Saying, "Drink up, ye sailors. It's worth all your while."

But quickly his smile will turn into a frown.
There's poor jolly Jack with his money all gone.

He'll then throw us out and the door he will lock.
Our pockets all empty, we'll head back to dock.

So 'tis out we are bound and 'tis out we must go.
'Tis out we are bound and we cannot say no.

I would recommend that album (Wave over Wave)to anyone.I saw them perform in Wexford about two years ago and bought the c.d at the gig.In my humble opinion it's one of the best folk albums of the past 10 years.

This tune is from Hugill (where it's called Goodbye, Fare-Ye-Well). More or less similar verses IIRC. Sorry I haven't time to make a midi at the moment.

St. Pierre (St.Peters), a French isle of the coast of Newfoundland is and was a smugglers paradise for rum and tobacco. It was from here that the rum runners of prohibition days picked up a large portion of their cargo, destined for Canada and the USA.
