Subject: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: wdyat12 Date: 09 Jun 01 - 08:17 PM Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat Cafe? Sorry Max, but I just had to post this question. I listen to the Mudcat Radio every Tuesday night, whenever I can, or from the archives whenever I can for the fine playlist you present, but I listen also to hober.com. Am I some sort of Mudcat traitor? I like both venues and frequent them often for the music I need in my life. wdyat12 |

Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: Rick Fielding Date: 09 Jun 01 - 09:25 PM Hmmm, Flatt and Scruggs at Vanderbilt, Mike Seeger singing "Lady Of Carlisle". I think I LIKE this. Double thanks Wdyat. Rick P.S. So let me (for about the twentieth time) pass on one of MY faves Gawd, this Liz Goldberg lady sounds like a Chicago singer named Jo Mapes. Rick again. I'll go away now and stop monopolizing this thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: bigchuck Date: 09 Jun 01 - 09:56 PM I have to like it. They played one of my leads from our CD. Truely, I like Hober, just don't have that much time to listen too it. Sandy |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: Sorcha Date: 09 Jun 01 - 11:01 PM kat/katlaughing has plugged it several times, I guess you guys just missed it.........(do you have a Life????--naw, couldn't have) |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: catspaw49 Date: 09 Jun 01 - 11:06 PM I like some of Hober's programming.......I too got it from kat. Everything depends on the day too. The "Red Hot Jazz" is a great site and some days I don't do any. There are just a tremendous number of good sites on the net. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: katlaughing Date: 09 Jun 01 - 11:10 PM Thanks, Sorcha! **BG** I counted seven threads, including this one, with hober in the title. Some I've started didn't have it in the title. I've plugged Woodchuck's Revenge, Art Thieme, Kendall Morse, and a bunch of others I've heard on there, mainly because I listen to it all day at least 2-3 days out of the week, while I am writing. Only problem I have with it, is I want darn near ever CD I hear on there and I always hear another song I want to learn! That, and I often wonder why they don't play any Rick Fielding! I learned about hober, here, at the Mudcat. I don't think of it as being competition with Mudcat Radio, either, as Mudcat is live with video and its main purpose is not to be an internet radio station, as is hober's. Anywho, glad you all are finally coming up ta speed.**VBG** kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: BlueJay Date: 10 Jun 01 - 02:22 AM To me, Hober is probably the best internet radio I've found. Lots of good features. Lots of great tunes. I don't feel like a traitor, because I don't think that Max is trying to compete as a full time radio station. Please correct me if I am wrong. Truth is, I am only able to tune into Mudcat Radio, or Hober Radio two or three times a month. I hit Hober just to listen, and Mudcat Radio occasionally with a target in mind. I feel the two stations fulfill different purposes, so they are not in direct competition. The better to serve us all. Thanks, BlueJay |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: thosp Date: 11 Jun 01 - 12:08 AM i've been listening to hober for quite awhile --- almost exclusively --- i don't consider it to be competitive to mudcat --- and Kat they do play Rick Fielding and Art Thieme i've heard both a few times ---- peqace (Y) thosp |

Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: DaveJ Date: 11 Jun 01 - 01:08 AM Hober has been keeping me company at work since it was mentioned (this time). The just played Art Thieme's The Older I Get, The Better I Was. Very nice, Art. Very nice, Hober. DaveJ |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: Rick Fielding Date: 11 Jun 01 - 10:01 AM The thing that I like about it, is that it's EASY! Push a button, get wonderful music! Love these new discoveries. Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: dick greenhaus Date: 11 Jun 01 - 10:39 AM Just to point out that the recordings played on Hober are available from CAMSCO. No connection. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: katlaughing Date: 11 Jun 01 - 10:55 AM Yeah, I got the Voices of Forgotten Worlds set from Dick, after hearing it on Hober. Thosp, thanks. I'd heard Art many times, but not Rick, good to know. Also good to know they've put up the Mudcat link. I've sent them comments about it, usually each time I hear them play a Mudcatters. I've also hear a lot of Seamus Kennedy on there. I have only ever sent them one nasty note, when they played some repetitive minimalist crap by PHilip Glass. I think it must've been his piece from Kundun, the movie about the Dalai Lama. I've not seen it, but had had the music decribed to me. I had to turn it off as it was driving the pets and me nuts. I wrote to ask them what in the world it had to do with folk/world music! It was awful! kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: Max Date: 11 Jun 01 - 11:13 AM HOBER Rocks. I listen to it all the time. In fact, we're planning to put a link to HOBER on mudcat and have discussed a deal between Camsco and HOBER to distribute records through their site. Good stuff. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: SDShad Date: 11 Jun 01 - 11:20 AM Kat, you may be amused (or just annoyed) by a knock-knock joke I saw on the net a few years ago: "Knock, knock." "Who's there?" "Philip Glass. Knock knock." "Who's there?" "Philip Glass. Knock knock." "Who's there?" "Philip Glass. Knock knock." "Who's there?" "Philip Glass. Knock knock." "Who's there?" "Philip Glass. Knock knock....." You get the idea. Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: SDShad Date: 11 Jun 01 - 11:23 AM Oh, and by the way, to be actually on topic (and don't really see why this topic needed BS), not only does Hober rock, HOBER RULES! (w/ apologies to MattR) I have a really long text file on my machine of songs I've heard on Hober and want to buy in some future incarnation.... Hmmm. Rock 'n' rule. Might be onto something there. Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: katlaughing Date: 11 Jun 01 - 11:35 AM I love it, SD and will definitely tell it to my brother, the composer. He'll get a kick out of it! Great to hear that, Max, thanks for letting us know! kat |
Subject: RE: BS: Is Hober a bad word on Mudcat? From: SDShad Date: 11 Jun 01 - 02:44 PM This very moment, I'm listening to Mudcat's own Kendall Morse singing one of my all-time favorite songs, "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda." On Hober, of course. Marvelous job on the song, Kendall. Chris |
