Chanteyranger & Richard,

I think OAT is on at 9:00, just before Faith closes the show, but we still haven't received confirmation. Maybe the folks booking us finally listened to our demo!

Hi, Rev -

The event was co-sponsored by an environmental group called The National Clean Boating Campaign, which promotes non-pollutive boating practices. The national NPS director (now former director) asked us several months ago to host this event, so it was quite different than our strictly in-house events. Too bad about FESTSEA - I was very bummed to see it cancelled. Call me at home sometime.

Dave - Richard and I will be leading a chantey workshop at the Free Folk Festival on Sunday, the 17th. See you at the fest. When is Oak, Ash, and Thorn on?

Hey Chanteyranger, Sounds like a nice event, but what the 'bleep' is Clean Boating Day? Is that when you sawb all your decks and scrape the barnacles off your bottom? Or does it have anything to do with (Heaven forbid!) clean and sober living? If the latter is the case, how do sea chanteys promote clean and sober boating? Just curious. I still want to hear the whole story about what happened to Festival of the Sea. Philip Morgan was asking me about it too. What's the scoop? Rev

Sounds great--sorry I had to miss it. I was kidnapped by time travelers and held hostage in the 16th century. See you all at the SF Folk Festival.

Hey, Winters Wages, don't let Skip Henderson get you down, for Heaven's Sake. He doesn't exactly have a reputation for sensitivity, in case you hadn't noticed.

Well, Im sorry I missed you...I loked for you. A lot of people did not know me when they saw me...Not that I have changed much, but I wore dark glasses, a hat (to hide my almost bald head, and did not smile. I stood next to Skip Henderson for over 15 mins. He did not know me. It was later I gave myself away. A lot of it was cause I am still a little shy about all this. I do not lioke being this way. Thats for damn sure...then Ol'Skip has to tell me his mother had this same disease for over 8 years, then croaked! Helped a lot..Ugh! Just what I needed. Anyway guys..I will be around..Keep those prayers going although friends close to me tell me a guy fit for hanging probably wont die **BG Lets hope so Take care Winters Wages

Thank you, Dave and all, for the kind words! Winters Wages was indeed looking stronger. He amusd himself by standing next to people who have known him for 10 years and waiting to see when they would recognise him. His hearty laugh is back, and it served as his giveaway as he watched recognition take hold.

Spaw - We wanted to save our favorite Lord for closing time. The triple flutterer always works its magic at the end of the day. This year, though, he started too early, mistaking the main mast of the Balclutha for his favorite post. We estimate that the ship will re-open to the public in September.

WYS - thanks for offering to post that. We have had an annual "festival of the sea" in the Fall, but it's cancelled for this year! Long story. There'll be a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the publication of Moby Dick and 20th anniversary of the monthly chantey sing on Saturday, November 3, though. I'll post a thread with details when it gets closer. We do have a regular sea music concert series, which doesn't qualify as a festival, but if there's a link for something like that, can we talk? Thanks.

Thanks Dave and OAT, Riggy, Radriano, and the other bands and individual performers who sang and played that day! It's such a pleasure working with everyone. Our bay area is blessed with performers who are fantastic musicians and folks. It makes my job a labor of love.

Sounds great El Swanno! And I'm happy to hear your report on Winters Wages. As for Chanteyranger, I must admit he's one helluvan' impresario!

You didn't mention it El Swanno, but I also heard he brought in, at no small expense, the Flaming and Tassled Brit, Lord Windershmear and that the Pole was festively decorated in red, white, and blue bunting!

Chanteyranger, a river to his people, was kind enough to book us for the National Clean Boating Day event at San Francisco's National Maritime Historical Park. A new portion of the park, adjacent to the Hyde Street Pier was opened for the event, and we played the stage nearest the water.

As we sang into the afternoon wind off San Francisco Bay, we thought of the Mudcatters who were singing at Mystic on the same weekend, and wished them well.

Dick and Carol Holdstock, Dogwatch, Shay Black, and Starboard Watch were also booked by Chanteyranger. We learned after the event that the best acoustics for the audience were to be found in the restrooms between the piers. Great for us, we've been sending sudiences running for the porcelin for years.

I had a good, strong handshake and hug from Winter's Wages, who was up and about for the event. He's not up to singing yet, but his hair is returning and he looks good.

So thanks again to Chanteyranger. It's good to have a pal in a Smokey Bear hat.
