Subject: Erins Green Shore From: GUEST,Jemima Date: 12 Jun 01 - 08:26 AM Hi, I'm looking for Erin's Green Shore as played on Dervish's 'At the End of the Day' album. I have found a few versions but they aren't the one I'm looking for and I can't make out what the singer is saying sometimes. I know that the first few verses go as follows: Last night as I lay on my pillow, A vision appeared in mt view, of a ship sailing over the ocean, and the breeze sweetly scented with bloom (Not sure of that line) On the deck stood a lovely young maiden, With features I ne'er saw before, And she sighed for the wrongs of her country, As she sailed from Erin's green shore I'm also looking for any folk players who play at a regular haunt in the Plymouth area who need a bodhran player. (No jokes please unless the urge is really irresistible (: ) Slainte, Jemima Also see Erin's Green Shore (a different song) |
Subject: RE: Erins Green Shore From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 12 Jun 01 - 09:09 AM It's often the case that buying the record can solve such problems; lyrics for this song are included in the insert. It's usually called not Erin's Green Shore, but Eileen McMahon (sometimes McManus). There are two sets of lyrics in this previous discussion: lyrics for Eileen McManus.
The Dervish set came from Cathy Jordan's father, Pat Joe. The texts in the thread I've linked to are longer versions, but it should be easy enough to make out the words Cathy sings by referring to them. If anybody decides to post a transcription from the sleevenotes, please put them in the earlier thread so that they can be more easily found again in the future. |
