Subject: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 13 Jun 01 - 10:49 AM Jack played The Bothy Folk Club, Gainsborough, UK several times in the '70's. He came from the Derby area (I think) and was a Gordon Lightfoot afficionado. Does he still perform? Anyone seen him lately? |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: BanjoRay Date: 13 Jun 01 - 01:43 PM He did a floor spot in the Folk Club at the Railway Hotel in Doncaster on 5/6/01. He was there to see a performance by Debby McClatchy, a friend of his (and mine). He's got a superb voice and style. He lives in Derby, I believe, but I don't know where. Cheers |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: bobby's girl Date: 14 Jun 01 - 08:10 PM I saw Jack several times in the seventies when I was at RAF Cosford, and he performed at the folk club there - he had the most wonderful deep voice, and my LP of him is one of my most treasured possessions, but as you can imagine its getting pretty worn out now. if anyone knows where I can get a CD I would be eternally grateful! |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 15 Jun 01 - 10:57 AM Thanks Banjo Ray and Bobby's Girl, you're dead right about the voice. My copy of 'Footlights & Headlights' went missing years ago. Shame I missed him at Donny, only a few miles away. Any more news about Jack out there - are you there Jack??? Speak to me !!!!!!

Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: MikeL2 Date: 31 Oct 12 - 07:06 AM Hi I remember Jack well. Saw him several times. One time having imbibed more than sufficient I woke up in the morning with a vinyl LP called "Homecoming" .... I have no idea how I came to have it.. The cover shows Jack in a sheepskin jacket in a grotty yard. I still have it among my numerous vinyl folk stuff. I must try and get to see him sometime. I have laid off the booze so I might just remember if I buy anything!!! Cheers MikeL2 |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST Date: 31 Oct 12 - 08:11 AM Mike, google him - there are several fairly recent vids of Jack at Loughborough. Notable are his version of Kate Wolf's 'Across The Great Divide' and his own song 'Driftwood and Nails'. Still the Maestro, despite advancing years and some pretty serious ill-health. Jack doesn't do many gigs nowadays, but he's still superb and well worth travelling to see. He did a gig last Winter with Russ Barenberg (Transatlantic Sessions regular) in Derbyshire, but the weather was foul and the snow stopped me driving there. |

Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Backwoodsman Date: 31 Oct 12 - 10:05 AM Thanks for those, Maeve - my post above, sans cookie, and I haven't yet worked out how to copy links from YouTube on my iPad! Really annoying, I bet a kid of 9 could work it out, but I can't! |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: maeve Date: 31 Oct 12 - 11:15 AM Happy to help, Backwoodsman. |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: MikeL2 Date: 01 Nov 12 - 07:42 AM Hi Thanks Maeve for the links. And also thanks to Guest ( BWM ??) for the info about Jack. It brings back some memories ( some quite hazy !!) I always amired Jack as a very honest performer and it's great to hear that he is still around and performing. I will try and catch up with him. Thanks MikeL2 |

Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Big Al Whittle Date: 01 Nov 12 - 01:13 PM Well done Mitch! You caused a certain amount of innocent hilarity. All Jack's mates were going - ah! yes that would be back in the days when Jack used to stick a trombone up his bum and play the flight of the bumble bee to mass applause. But you know how touchy he is - one night someone said - Jack, its not really folk music...! |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST Date: 02 Nov 12 - 05:12 AM "Jack is a member of the EFDSS Board of Directors" Excellent! Sometimes the best jokes are the ones made innocently (I'm assuming it wasn't a deliberate faux pas, Mitch?). I hope Jack saw it, I can imagine his comments, not to mention the look on his face! :-) |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Backwoodsman on his iPad sans cookie Date: 02 Nov 12 - 05:13 AM The above post was me. |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST Date: 18 Dec 12 - 04:01 PM don. I used to enjoy him coming to Belper Folk CClub, he was always a big hit there, I loved his "Stoned and I missed it" |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: John MacKenzie Date: 18 Dec 12 - 04:50 PM Lovely voice, nice guitar style. Thanks |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Capo da Monty Date: 18 Dec 12 - 07:40 PM Just discovered there are some J H albums/tracks on iTunes available to download(for a small charge); some of which I hadn't heard before. CdM |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Backwoodsman Date: 19 Dec 12 - 01:42 AM Looks like some of Jack's work from the 70s. Shame 'Starlight & Headlights' isn't on there too. Maybe it will be eventually? Hope so. And I hope Jack's getting paid for sales of those albums/tracks. |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Capo da Monty Date: 19 Dec 12 - 01:59 PM I wondered about that too BW. Does he know they are there? I seem to remember him saying that one of his early LPs was re-released some years ago. It had an entirely different cover and was without his agreement or knowledge. The peeps that published it held the master-tape and he apparently didn't receive any royalties. |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST Date: 06 Jan 13 - 03:23 AM Hello Jack is alive and well. He has an album available - if you want to buy it, please contact me (daughter) on youtube - username jodybobble, where you can see a home vid i made of him and posted recently. Its my favourite song :o) Thanks for your compliments and good wishes. Jody (Hudson) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Jrj1hidUjc |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Backwoodsman Date: 06 Jan 13 - 03:48 AM It's my favourite too, Jody - so much so that it's in my set-list (along with 'Driftwood and Nails' and 'Alive and Well'). Jack's such a huge talent, it's shameful how he's been ignored by the self-elected Folk Cognoscenti for so long. When you're talking to him next, pass on my best wishes from Gainsborough please. BTW, was that his old Epi he was playing in the vid? |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Don Wise Date: 06 Jan 13 - 04:21 AM Oh I remember Jack from the days of Derby's 'Peasmouldia' FC- Residents The Lonesome Travellers. 'Rambling' Jack Hudson seemed to have suddenly apeared from nowhere- a couple of floor spots and the next you knew he was gigging. I've still got his 10" first LP somewhere- sold under plain white cover like a bootleg! Sometime back in the '70s I seem to rtemember depping for him at a club in Ilkeston(?). Quite how they hit on me to do the gig is lost in the mists of time but I felt it was an honour. Keep up the good work Jack. Deserving recognition and getting the recognition you deserve is often a bugger! Don |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,No Fixed Abode Date: 06 Jan 13 - 04:52 AM For what it is worth the video is brilliant! We try to play it live but yet again hearing Jack play it makes us realise just how "special" Jack is to those that found him. Rolleasy Jack!! |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST Date: 07 Jan 13 - 01:11 AM Hello No, it's not the Epi...it's my husbands Fender Gemini III (had to look!)...dad played this for me by special request. I dont have any more vids, but I will try and sneak a couple....we do occasionally have a little jam... Will pass on your lovely comments...regards, Jody |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Don Wise Date: 07 Jan 13 - 04:04 AM From the dark recesses of memory.....It must have been late '79/early '80 when I stood in for him since I vaguely recall travelling up from Milton Keynes.....I think Jack must have been seriously ill at the time so that somebody (Keith Kendrick??) quickly organised a group of stand-ins for him. I've looked at his YouTube vids- a couple of tempting songs there.....Ahhh, that voice...... |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Capo da Monty Date: 07 Jan 13 - 07:09 AM Great to hear Jack again. Thanks Jody Have travelled many a mile to be at his gigs over the years. From Eastbourne to Gainsborough and points in-between!It was always a real privilege. No set would be complete without a JH masterpiece would it BW!? Best Wishes Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Backwoodsman Date: 07 Jan 13 - 09:20 AM That was a good night at Gainsborough, Malcolm - The Maestro was in exceptionally fine voice! And no, I'd be ashamed of myself if I didn't include at least one of Jack's great songs! Do you still have that beautiful D-18GL? |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Backwoodsman Date: 07 Jan 13 - 09:26 AM Jody - I thought it didn't quite look 'right' to be the Epi. It would be great if you can get one or two more vids, your dad's a real class act! Cheers, look after him, he's a treasure. |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Capo da Monty Date: 07 Jan 13 - 09:45 AM I do indeed John; well remembered! She has been very good to me over the last 10 years and seems to sound better as the years go by. Glad to know you are still strutting your stuff too. Regards M |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST Date: 12 Apr 13 - 05:06 AM Jack Hudson get a fond mention from Brian Willoughby when he and Cathryn Craig recently did my radio show in Doncaster.... Jonti's Roots and Acoustic Music Show on www.sinefm.com here's the listen again link.. http://www.sinefm.com/popup/player.php?list=show_313&track=1 Jonti Willis |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Capo da Monty Date: 12 Apr 13 - 10:58 AM Thanks for mentioning this Jonti. Always good to hear Brian and Cathryn as well. There are many "Folkies" who have fond memories of Jack and a great respect for his contribution to the folk/americana scene over many years. His songwriting is second to none!Half decent guitarist too! Regards CdM |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Bendigo Date: 10 May 13 - 06:47 AM Regards to Jack's Epi Texan,I bought it from him about 6 years ago.Jack has many fans but none greater than me.I'd like to think we have been friends for over 40 years, from when I used to book him for Ludlow folk club. The Texan now lives in Worcestershire, and doesnt go out too often (I use mainly a Wootton,a Brook Torridge and a 1934 Martin 0-17)but is one of my most treasured possessions and well cared for.I got Brian Willoughby to play it for me a couple of years ago.Brian was with Jack in the Jack Hudson Trio who did a lot of late night work on radio back in the seventies.I had many late night drives with them on the car radio.Happy days |

Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: GUEST,Dean Read Date: 09 Oct 13 - 04:50 PM Just wondered if anyone knew weather Jack still does live gigs. I'm a new fan and have been loving his "Elvis is alive and well" album. I'm from Chesterfield in Derbyshire and I understand Jack is fairly local to me. This forum has been a great read and I can fully understand why so many people have a great love for his music and respect for the man himself. Thanks in advance folks. Dean P.s. The webcast is www.gentlefolk2.co.uk Played Curly by Rod Felton in the February edition... Thanks Norman Wheatley |
Subject: RE: Anyone know what happened to Jack Hudson From: Backwoodsman Date: 30 May 14 - 12:54 PM Try PM-ing Mudcat member 'Capo da Monty', who is a good friend of Jack's and might contact him on your behalf.
