Subject: Lyr Add: AIN'T YOU GLAD (Leadbelly) From: CRANKY YANKEE Date: 16 Jun 01 - 01:16 AM One of Leadbelly's AINT YOU GLAD (words and music, Hudson Ledbetter, I think) Oh aint y'u glad, oh aint y'u glad That the blood done signed your name. repeat foregoing twice. Oh the blood done signed your name. II In the heaven, in the heaven, the blood done signed your name repeeat twice Oh the blood done signed your name III Over yonder, over yonder, the blood done signed your name repeat previous format Make up your own lyrics to follow, like: In the City in the cornfield I've got a couple of different Leadbelly recordings of this song, somewhere. If the Foregoing isn't enough I'll find them and send you copies. Incidwentally, The Vipers Skiffle Group were chums of mine when I was stationed in England, 1957-1961. Wally Whyton introduced me to George Martin, then A & R head at Parlophone records. We recorded a bunch of stuff, four of wqhich were released before I was transferred Stateside. Six of these recordings are in my CD, "Spanning the Decades" (shameless, aint I?) Regards, Jody Gibson. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: aint you glad From: Janie Date: 12 Jul 05 - 01:07 PM There is a truly remarkable book out this summer, "Blood Done Sign My Name" by Timothy Tyson (review here) that takes it's title from the this spiritual. It is well worth reading to understand the on-going issues of race relations and the civil rights movement. On a second note--Ry Cooder does a great rendition of "If Walls Could Talk." Janie |
