Subject: Lyr Add: SCHOOL DAYS (Loudon Wainwright)
From: Timbobbin

From memory it goes something like this.

School Days

In Delaware when I was younger
I would row upon the lake
In the Spring I had great hunger
I was Keats I was Blake
My pimpled pencilled pains I'd bring
To frogs who sat entranced

My drift dream ditties I would sing
The water striders danced

In Delaware when I was younger
I would live a life obscene
In the Spring I had great hunger
I was Brando I was Dean
Blaspheming booted blue jeaned baby boy
Oh how I made them turn their heads
The townie brownie girls they jumped for joy
And begged me bless them in their beds

In Delaware when I was younger
I thought Saint Andrew (?) had sufficed
But in the Spring I had great hunger
I was buddha, I was Christ
You wicked wise men where's your wonder
You pharisees one day will pay
See my lightning hear my thunder
I am truth I know the way

In Delaware when I was Younger

That is as far as I can remember, I will dig out the album later to check

This is from the McGarrigles Website (click here).
There are lots of lyrics at his site, http://lwiii.com/. Doesn't have lyrics for his medley (I Know I'm Unhappy / Suicide Song / Glenville Reel).

Bit of trivia: there's a boarding school named St. Andrew's in Middletown, Delaware, on a beautiful lake, which the school crew uses for races and practices. The movie, "Dead Poets Society," was filmed on the campus. Wainwright graduated from St. Andrew's in the '60s. I graduated in the early '75, and that song captures and condenses an amazing amount of information and sensation.

Subject: Lyr Add: I KNOW I'M UNHAPPY+SUICIDE SONG+GLENVILLE
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 07 Jan 12 - 01:17 AM

MEDLEY: A) I KNOW I'M UNHAPPY, B) SUICIDE SONG, C) GLENVILLE REEL.
As sung by Loudon Wainwright III on "Album II" (1971)

I know I'm unhappy, know things aren't right.
F'rinstance last week I got drunk ev'ry night.
I know that I'm angry; I know I'm afraid.
I rarely make love; I mostly get laid.
And I know I'm unhealthy; no doctor could doubt.
My dreams are all bad and my hair's falling out.

When you get the blues and you want to shoot yourself in the head,
'Tsallright; 'tsallright; go ahead.
Do the monkey; do the pony; do the slop; do the boogaloo twist.
Cut your throat; cut your throat; cut your wrist.
When you tire of worldly toil,
Shuffle off this mortal coil.
Turn your body back to soil.
It's ok; it's ok.
When you get hung up, hang yourself up by your neck.
What the hell; what the hell; what the heck.

Stomp on the moon and spit in the ocean.
Razzamatazz an' I love you.
Holy smokes an' Land o' Goshen
You can do anything that you want to do.

You can sing four songs; you can dance ten dances.
Eat twelve candies; drink eight beers.
Break two rules and take six chances,
Laugh nine laughs and shed three tears.

Eat that watermelon; drink that moonshine.
She's the lady and you're the lord.
A Mail-Pouch chew will keep you in line.
Drive all over in her granddaddy's Ford.

Small talk, big talk, hugs an' kisses,
Strum a little number on the red guitar.
If you want to charm the bonnet off your missus,
Go out and catch a firefly; stick 'im in a jar.

Ah, take off 'er clothes an' throw 'er in the river.
Wash your body an' stick it in the sun.
Give that gal ever'thing you can give 'er.
You can give 'er the bullets if you can give 'er the gun.
