Are there any mudcatters planing on going to cambridge (UK) Folk Festival this year? I know it's still just over 5 weeks away yet, but this is the point at which the excitement starts buildig - even though this will be my 18th cambridge in a row! I remember that for at least the last couple of years they've had an on site fetsival internet cafe tent. Would'nt it be great to have a "catters meeting tent" or something!?

All other things being equal, I'll be there Friday evening and Saturday (at least).

Find me helping to run at the Club Tent 12:00-18:00 on Saturday. (Mayflower Folk Club session).

I left it too late to get a ticket, probably wouldn't have been able to make it anyway, maybe next year.

cheers

bill

Hang around outside. There's people selling tickets. All highly dubious, I don't doubt, but I've never had any trouble getting one. (A ticket that is).

Thanks for the info Jon, I might do that, it suits my usual way of planning things(last minute). Are these last minute tickets at an inflated price?

My domestic situation is such that making plans more than 24 hours in advance is unwise, however I might persuade my children that this is the birthday present I really want (I'm 31st july).

I shall keep an eye on this thread and see where people are to be meeting.

cheers

bill

It's usually people who've got a friend that couldn't make it. Mostly they just want to get their money back.

Living in Cambridge, and that weekend happens to be when I'm out of the country! Ah well, have a good one. It's pretty damn expensive anyway - maybe next year.

Graham.

It's also EXTREMELY crowded . . . which is fine if you like that sort of thing. And has the worse-natured crowd I've ever encountered at a Folk event (OK, it's only a minority but I still find it detracts from the enjoyment; it's the only place I've found "folkies" who are the worse for drink a total pain in the arse).

That said, the efforts it makes to accomodate the disabled are hugely commendable (well, they appear so to this observer).

So it's one place you're never likely to find me, despite it being only 7 miles from home (and having Carlos Nunez on this year's bill . . )

G.

Hey Grab fancy renting me your house for the night? I don't like roughing it! (camping) All the local hotels e.t.c seem to be full. References provided.

Carol ;)

Ps Nick fantastic idea!

Gave up when Cambridge gave up folk music. Gave up when a friend got beaten up. Gave up when significant other's daughter nearly got raped. Gave up when they started marking out the tent spaces. Gave up when they stopped you bringing a car onto site two days early to pitch tent. Gave up when significant other decided she was to old to camp. Gave up when the cost got too great. Gave up when I saw the club tent pay no attention whatsoever to John Kirkpatrick, and rave about some contemporary navel-gazing.

But I've been clean for five years now, despite previous relapses.

Pretty fair assesment. Doesn't have much in the way of trad. on the programme does it?

Never had quite as bad an experience as you seem to have done, but I have a very dull time there.

Sorry Carol, I'd not been checking this thread. My wife's still at home, so it might have been possible. Ah well, it's a bit late now!

Graham.

Cambridge always make me think of Ken Wollard who used to put me up and let me in easy. The last time I went was the year that they started the pottery medallions with an appropriate number of dots for the days paid. An awfully long time ago.
