Subject: Over or Under From: GUEST,John, in the john Date: 18 Jun 01 - 02:15 PM When you hang up your toilet paper, do you hang the paper over the roll or under it. According to a poll reported in the May 28, 2001 edition of Maclean's, 4,256 people said over while 8,719 said under. I'll start the voting here by saying under. Always under. John, in the john |

Subject: RE: Over or Under From: MMario Date: 18 Jun 01 - 02:23 PM to the right. (ours is oriented vertically not horizontally) |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Amergin Date: 18 Jun 01 - 02:26 PM I don't use toilet paper...I use that paper you can find in those flat object them edjumacated folks call books.... |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Don Firth Date: 18 Jun 01 - 02:47 PM There are two kinds of people: those who divide people into two kinds, and those who don't. Here's one for you: Some folks are folders and some folks are crumplers. Check out the people you know and see if you can figure out which they are. Don Firth |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Charley Noble Date: 18 Jun 01 - 04:22 PM I always used recycled! |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Matt_R Date: 18 Jun 01 - 04:47 PM OVER! Ickle, it's what you call "bum fodder" or "bumf". |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Kim C Date: 18 Jun 01 - 04:57 PM When I actually hang it, UNDER. But most of the time it just sits there, until we have company, then we hang it. But in my own personal WC, which is situated in a space where there used to be a fireplace, no less, the toilet is so close to the wall that it's necessary to sit at an odd angle, making it difficult to reach the roller. So I don't hang that one either. :-) |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Murray MacLeod Date: 18 Jun 01 - 06:06 PM I don't hang up my toilet paper, I flush it away. Murray |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: wysiwyg Date: 18 Jun 01 - 06:13 PM It is true that there are 2 kinds of people, but it isn't divided according to overs and unders... it's paper hangers or NON-hangers, and empty-roll-throw-awayers or NON-empty-roll-throw-awayers, and wipers or non-wipers. Then you got your subgroups in wipers, forehand or backhand. (I mean in terms of reach of course.) Is there any correlation BTW between innie-outie and under-over and crumple-fold!? I actually never knew there were crumplers till a few years ago. Clue-- Crumplers correlate with NON-FLUSHERS! ~S~ |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Snuffy Date: 18 Jun 01 - 08:27 PM Since having kids, we've always hung it so the paper comes out at the back. 2-year-olds love to pat the roll with their hands - if it comes over the front you end up with 18 feet of toilet paper all over the bathroom floor; the other way it stays on the roll! Wassail! V |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: John Hardly Date: 18 Jun 01 - 08:35 PM I can't believe I'm entering this discussion but... It is obvious which way the manufacturers of TP intend for it to be hung. It is printed so that the pattern is ONLY right-side-up when hung over. |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Snuffy Date: 18 Jun 01 - 09:12 PM Patterns on yer toilet paper? When I were a lad, we had to use worn-out sandpaper. That's if there were any. Many's the time I've had to hold it in fer a week or ten days waiting fer t'next delivery. |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: SINSULL Date: 18 Jun 01 - 09:44 PM Patterns on your toilet paper? That's disturbing. Mine is white and pulls from under. I used to feed it over the top but then my cats started using it as a treadmill and decorating the house with shreds. My son gets annoyed at my inconsistency - this from a man who wears two different colored socks! Now the cats just sharpen their claws on it. We all look carefully for claws left behind (I thinks that's a pun). |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Matt_R Date: 18 Jun 01 - 09:49 PM Ah Sins, you must have that triple-Z brand with the wood chips in it, the kind that public restrooms have. |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: Mr Red Date: 19 Jun 01 - 03:09 PM My dear departed sister sent me a roll of TP printed with lipstick lips all over it. but then she knew my sense of humour. BTW this was from NZ where they have a very nice line in offbeat humour. If you know where to find it! I was going to say I use that boxed folded sort of TP just to be different but I ain't seen any of it for yonks. FWIW - over. |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: UB Ed Date: 19 Jun 01 - 03:19 PM Always OVER for the pattern's sake (and Miss Manners). And one should never sit at an odd angle... Actually, shouldn't it be over North of the equator and under South of the Equator to account for the Earth's spin? Sorry Spaw's not in this one.... Ed |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: GUEST,SharonA Date: 19 Jun 01 - 04:26 PM Over. When I was a kid, my parents mounted it over on the dispenser, and I would re-mount it under because the dispenser was placed high on the wall and, when pulled down sharply, the paper had less tendancy to keep rolling if mounted under. But my parents would always re-re-mount it over! BTW my toilet is at an odd angle so, perforce, so must I be. In fact, it's at the opposite angle to the one in my last home. Felt a bit seasick when I first moved into the present one. |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: RangerSteve Date: 19 Jun 01 - 04:36 PM WHy do we have toilet paper holders, anyway? I just leave it in a convenient place near the bowl where I can reach it. It still does its job. I also feel the same way about paper towels. |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: SINSULL Date: 19 Jun 01 - 04:43 PM You keep your paper towels in a convenient spot by the toilet bowl. Why? And what makes it convenient? I prefer mine in the kitchen. |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: hesperis Date: 19 Jun 01 - 05:35 PM Over. Unless the toilet paper roll is literally next to my elbow, when it makes more sense to have it further away by a few inches. If it's over, then I can reach it while I'm still on the toilet. Guys with long arms tend to be able to reach anything, but I can't. I need those couple of extra inches!!! |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: GUEST,artbrooks@work Date: 19 Jun 01 - 07:28 PM Under. The other great mystery is howcome some people (like herself) will go get another role when one is emptied, leave the empty role on the roller, and put the new one on the edge of the sink where it gets wet. |
Subject: RE: Over or Under From: TishA Date: 19 Jun 01 - 07:39 PM Over.........Always. And if it's the other way at work, why then, I change it. Snuffy, the correct solution to your kid problem is to hang the paper OVER as is proper. But first you smush the roll so as to put a little crease in the roll, There now, see? It won't just spin around when you pat it. This has saved lots of paper. Chip A. at home By the way, it's the important issues such as this that keep me coming to mudcat |
