Subject: Music/Lyrics request:I know my love From: Scotia Date: 26 Dec 96 - 04:29 AM I am looking for the music (fiddle) and lyrics to this English tune. I believe the Corries have done a version of it and I know Eliza Carthy has done it as well. I know some of the chorus goes like "... bonny boys are few and if my loves leaves me what shall I do." Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Scotia |
Subject: Lyr Add: I KNOW MY LOVE From: Susan of DT Date: 26 Dec 96 - 06:58 PM Yes, I thought we had it in the DT. I searched on [know my love] and found it. The advantage of having your own copy of the digital tradition is that you can hear the tune on any song with a "play.exe" notation at the end. We hope to get the tune playing functional at this site soon. For your very own copy, send four formatted high-density disks in a stamped self-addressed mailer to: Dick Greenhaus 28 Powell Street Greenwich CT 06831 Say whether they are PC or MAC. Send us some songs at the same time, if you have any on your computer. [Tell us that the disk is not blank if you send something] I KNOW MY LOVE I know my love by his way of walking, And I know my love by his way of talking And I know my love by his suit of blue And if my love leaves me, what will I do? CHO: And still she cried: "I love him the best But a troubled mind, sure, can get no rest." And still she cried, "Bonny boys are few, And if my love leaves me, what will I do?" There is a dance house in Maradyke Where my true love goes every night And takes a strange one upon his knee And don't you know, now, that vexes me. I know my love is an arrant rover And he'll go roaming the wide world over In foreign parts he may chance to stray Where all the girls are so bright and gay, If my love knew I could wash and wring If my love knew I could weave and spin I'd make a dress all of the finest kind But the want of money leaves me behind. Subject: ADD Version: I Know My Love From: Moira Cameron, moirakc@internorth.com Date: 20 Jan 97 - 02:19 AM I can't remember where I learned this--Sometime when I was a child. I understood it to be a travelling people's song. The lyrics I learned are: I know my love by his way of walkin' And I know my love by his way of talkin' And I know my love in suit of blue-- And if my love leaves me, what will I do? Chorus: Ah, but still she cries, "I love him the best! And a troubled mind, sure, it knows no rest," Ah but still she cries, "Bonny boys are few, And if my love leaves me what will I do. There is an ale-house down in the town And there my true love, he sits him down And he takes another girl on his knee-- And don't you know how that vexes me! Chorus: I know my love is a handsome rover And I know my love roams the whole world over In some foreign clime, he will chance to tarry And some foreign girl he will surely marry. Chorus: |
