Subject: O virgo splendens - round From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 22 Jun 01 - 12:45 PM I've bought a book of medieval music and it has the song "O Virgo Splendens" in it. This was a round sung by pilgrims to Spain in the 14th Century, and it may be the earliest round known. I searched for the words, but couldn't find them. However, it was been recorded quite often. If any of you have a CD with this number on it and with the lyrics printed inside, would you please share them? |

O virgo splendes
Oh Virgen resplandecienteen
O resplendent Virgin,
The weird line breaks with the Latin match exactly the line breaks to the Spanish. The English is from a different site. You want the site addresses? Pasting cells and sorting out the line breaks is a B***H! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: O virgo splendens - round From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 22 Jun 01 - 11:12 PM Thanks very to both of you. It is a curious thing that the title of the piece is in Latin, but the Spanish words seem to be a better fit. The piece is in 9/8 time, and many of the Spanish lines have nine syllables. Time now to cut and paste... |
