Emma, I heard a rumour recently that Yorkshire Tea blends vary up and down the country to suit individual tastes.

Anyway what are you, as a fully paid up member of yorkshireteadrinkersanonymous doing making the glorious stuff using TEABAGS???? I demand you resign on the grounds of lack of good taste. Your membership is clearly untenable (as those dreary politicians say when they think they've unearthed a juicy bit of gossip on the 'enemy'.

Yorkshire Tea (preferably Yorkshire Gold) should ONLY be brewed using the loose stuff, and in a decent teapot at that.

John (Lancastrian exiled in Cheshire, but having the good grace to admit that the M62 isn't the only good thing to come out of Yorkshire)

For all the US bidders I would like to point out that you do need a kettle, not just a pan of boiling water, and a proper tea pot to qualify. And of course Yorkshire water. Speaking as the major mudcat importer of Yorkshire Tea to the USA I actually don't think you deserve it after what you did in Boston. My advice is stick to Liptons and let true British tea drinkers bid for this lot.

Jen Ellen. If you want I will put a bottle of Yorkshire water into the auction. It does seem true though when we were over in the US the tea never tasted quite like it does in Yorkshire. It is probably the sheep shit in the streams over here.

Not wanting to be boringly "technical", but I presumed Yorkshire Tea was blended to get the best possible cup of tea from the hard lime-ridden water we have around here.

Saying that, my daughter still prefers to use it over in Liverpool, where I presume they are on soft surface water like the Manchester area.

Hmmm... must be the sheep shit after all! Let's face it, most areas of the UK have sheep!

Have proper teapot. And Mom's Mom was British so I was taught how to brew a proper pot of tea. "Teapot to the kettle;never kettle to the tea". And never slop a nasty bit of likewarm stuff onto a teabag in a mug. NEVER! No Yorkshire water though. Do i qualify?

I remember arriving in Berlin after a long overland journey (in 1971, so travel wasn't particularly easy)and my host, a lovely lady, saying that she knew I would be ready for a nice cup of tea. I sank into a chair, thanking all the Gods for smiling upon me, while she poured. Horror of horror, it was green, and cold. I'd never heard of mint tea. I nearly cried. I reckon tea should be the colour of a nice Scotch whiskey, although whiskey the colour of tea is even better.

Well, Bill, as you know we've got plenty of sheep shit here at my house! I don't care what you Yorkshire purists say, what matters to me is that your tea is so far superior to any of the dreck that tries to pass as tea over here that the water almost doesn't make a difference, nor how it is served!

The only time I ever saw Bill Sables the least bit crabby is last year at Old Songs on Sunday afternoon when he was hot, tired and sleep-deprived. He tried to buy a cup of tea from a poor innocent vendor who didn't understand why this man was nearly in tears when he dangled the limp tea bag in front of his face.
But when he came to my campsite to lament the situation, I was pleased to reveal my hidden stash of Yorkshire's finest!

I can actually buy a box in Peterborough, a few towns over, but it's never as good as the stuff Bill imports!

It may be a matter of interest to Trevor that in Morocco, hotbed of mint tea suppage, they refer to it as "Moroccan Whisky", and when they make it, direct from the plant, it does have a slightly amberish tint to it.

This is where I put my hand on my heart and say that I don't always use Yorkshire tea myself: blended teas all taste more or less the same to me. But I have a nice line in green teas, some of which I don't even know what they are, because I can't read Chinese. I even have some Chrysanthemum tea, which is definitely a feast for the eyes (definitely not for the tongue!)

I cannot believe that Sam has been a student for so many years and managed not to develop a caffeine-habit! Mind you, I have seen him drink quite a lot of cola...

You want to talk about tea? Well start here at the Lapsang Souchong thread.

http://www.mudcat.org/thread.CFM?threadID=20316

There are tips and tricks for making a lovely cup of tea - in a warmed pot, with leaves of course, never use water from the hot water tap, etc - as well as everyone's favourite teas.

We even planned to put the instructions into the Mudcat recipe book - BTW, did that ever actually pop into existence?

In Tescos this morning they were selling two sorts of Yorkshire tea bags. Red for ordinary water and green for hard water. Don't know what the difference is. Here in Pontefract (Yorkshire ) our water is hard but in Bradford (also Yorkshire) it is very soft so maybe we'll have to test them out next time we visit the inlaws. All tastes pretty foul to me anyway!!
