halloo everyone,

here's a plug and a plea:

First, the plug: I'll be Ron Olesko's guest on "Traditions" on WFDU 89.1 FM (streaming on http://www.wfmu.fm) this coming Sunday, 7/1, sometime between 3 and 6 pm :)

Now the plea: since this is my first radio spot, I'd love to hear pointers from others about your hard-earned experiences as guests, hosts, and listeners of radio shows. What do you love? What do you not love? What conversation topics make for an incredible -- or incredibly disastrous -- interview? As a listener, what kind of discourse makes you tune in, or pull the plug?

Trusting the gods but vulnerable to the demons,

Erica

Just be comfortable! Your voice and spirit will carry you through!!

I host a radio show and I am having a guest on my show this Sunday who hasn't appeared before and I will tell her the same thing! What a coincidence - she has the same name as you! The show is the same, except the webaddress is www.WFDU.fm, not WFMU!! :)

See you Sunday... I am really looking forward to it and I hope lots of people will tune in, either at 89.1 in the NYC area or through our website.!

Erica, I just want to know what makes people tick. Why do they choose the songs they do? What do they love and feel passionate about? What do they wish for their listeners? Have fun, and congratulations too. The hills of Putnam County usually get in the way of my radio reception so I rarely get to hear WFDU these days, alas... Margaret

Margaret, join us on your computer - www.wfdu.fm. Also, we just put a new control room online and we have had some work done on our lines which should improve the quality of the signal. Also, hope for a decent wind and you might get us!! :)

I'm actually curious, how many people do listen to radio shows (any station) on the PC?

Actually, Ron, I live in a secluded little valley, so radio reception is horrible. I even listen to our local NPR via PC just so I can be sure to hear it. I won't tell you how long it took for me to quit moving the speakers around hoping to get 'better reception'..*bg*

Best of luck Erica! Get 'em Girl, and we'll be listening.

You dawg! I guess you're right (and by the way -- I have every confidence in you to guide me expertly and gently through all of this . . . but i just know my own penchant for tangents, ramblings, foul language, and blanking out, and have heard more than one interview in which the guest sounds like a total creep.) Hence the advice-seeking.

Thanks for the assurance -- you just saved me 3 days of gastroentiritis!

Don't worry... it is easy! If it weren't easy I wouldn't be doing it for so many years!!

It will be as painless as a converstation on Mudcat... only we will use our voices instead of typing!!

Ron
