Subject: Mandolin Instruction Vids-Suggestions? From: Áine Date: 27 Jun 01 - 02:38 PM I'm hoping that some of you mandopickers can help a newbie to the instrument out here. I'm having tons of fun with my mandolin; but I'd really like to advance from the strumming chords and picking 'Yankee Doodle' stage now. I searched a five county area up here in North Texas, and I still can't find a teacher. So, I'm hoping that you all can suggest some good instructional videos or book/cd combos that could help me out. Thanks in advance, Áine |

Subject: RE: Mandolin Instruction Vids-Suggestions? From: Walking Eagle Date: 28 Jun 01 - 10:25 AM Go to a website - - elderlyinstruments.com - -. They sell all sorts of videos, you might be able to get what you wnat there. Also, do you live near a college or university? If you do, they might have a School of Music and a music librarian. University libraries are open to the public and you might find some help there. Check with the reference librarian to see if they can be of any assistance. I hope this helps and welcome to the world of picking good music! |

Subject: RE: Mandolin Instruction Vids-Suggestions? From: Áine Date: 28 Jun 01 - 10:47 AM Thanks so much, guys! I've gone to the Elderly site and I'll be ordering the Bill Monroe tapes ASAP. And thanks for the 'welcome', Walking Eagle - you made my day. Now, any pointers from y'all about how to learn to do the tremelo? I've tried to start slow and get a little faster, but I still feel pretty spastic (and it sounds that way, too!). Thanks again everyone, Áine |
