Subject: Bawdy Pub Songs
From: GUEST,Mark Williams

Hi,

I am not sure if anyone here can help me in my quest but here goes.

I am trying to locate a site that will give me access to lyrics and chords for "off colour" pub songs.

Specifically I remember one about a peasant meeting a notorious bandit that ends

so you ask me if I know ..... I had lunch with him the other day.

Not much to go on I know but if anyone can help or point me in the right direction please Email me at mark_perdie@hotmail.com

Thanks

PS. The peasant in question was Mexican and I think predictably his name was Miguel

Try that one. The site is called Smutty Songs, Dirty Ditties & Bawdy ballads. It's fun.

There's a few right here on the digitrad d-base.

Search for "the barsted king of england" and its close relative "the bastard king of england."

There was a joke about Pancho Villa whose punch line was: "Pancho Villa? Do I know Pancho Villa? We had lunch together only today."

Is that the one you mean?

cheers, Fortunato

Or howzabout:

The Ball of Ballynor, known in the DT as The Ball of Kerrinor or some such thing. Pretty raw, but it's a nice melody as well.

I agree with Micca, traditional music at: http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/bawdy-songs/idxv14as.htmhas a great collection, it's one of my favourite sites. Try 'Ball of Kirriemuir' and 'No balls at all'.

"You ask me if I know Manuel, the Bandito,
I know Manuel, well, now you know,"
< br>

Try a search on "Kevin Bloody Wilson" who sang this, and a lot of other bawdy material.

I have a sister Lilly she's a whore in Piccadilly
And my mother sells her pussy on the Strand
And my father sells his arsehole round the Elephant & Castle
We're the biggest fuckin family in the land

The songs mentioned are bawdy, but I rather doubt if they would be sung in pubs, tho my knowledge of pubs is limited. In a pub I would expect more of an overlap with the mildly naughty music-hall genre, such as "Little Bit of Cucumber" (with the audience supplying the "I come, you come") or "Sam Hall" or some of the songs on Elsa Lanchester's record.

THE GUILLOTINE

Once there were princesses three,
Purity, Virtue and Chastity
Purity, Chastity, Purity, Chastity, Purity...
and Virtue

But their names did not agree,
with the lusty nature of the three
Their father would not trust to luck,
in warding off a royal . . .

Fa-la-la, fa-la-la, fa-la-la, fa-la-la,
fa-la-la, fa-la, la LA

The king welded on his daughters three,
belts to insure virginity
And in each belt was placed a lock,
with-a-blade-to-chop an intruders...

Diddle-dum, diddle-dee, diddle-dum, diddle-dee,
diddle-dum, no dummy he.

Off their father went to war,
leaving Purity, Chastity, Purity, Chastity, Purity,
and Virtue . . .

Fa-la-la, fa-la-la, fa-la-la, fa-la-la,
fa-la-la, fa-la, la LA

When the king returned from war,
He summoned his knights, all seven score
And ordered all to drop their pants,
to see if each still had his lance

Sing hey, nonny, nonny,nonny. . .
no

The king could not believe his eyes,
not one knight retained his prize
Save the brave and bold Sir Nick,
the one and only knight who had his...

Derry down, derry down, derry down, derry down,
derry down, hang derry derry down

"Nick," said the King, "as you have been true,
I give my kingdom half to you.
And one daughter to be wed,
what say you, Nick?"

And Sir Nick said:

Fa-wa-wa, fa-wa-wa, fa-wa-wa, fa-wa-wa,
fa-wa-wa, fa-wa,wa WA!!!

Thanks, so much! I used to sing this song in a bawdy dinner theatre setting years ago...and lost my lyrics! Can't wait to dust it off again.

Sorry , but IF I was in a pub with a lady , and the landlord allowed Obscenity , rather than 'bawdy' I would take my custom elsewhere .
Nothing wrong with Double (Or perhaps Triple) entendre , but Obscenity is for Boys Only events .
And YES ! I DO sing songs with ALL sorts of 'entendres' !
