Subject: RE: BS: Anyone going to Abbotsbury From: sledge Date: 30 Jun 01 - 02:39 PM The English Duo Show of hands perform yearly now at the sub tropical gardens near Abbotsbury. Its something of a family friendly event, picnics welcome and childrens entertainment. All in all a great location to enjoy Phil and Steve's superb music. I am not sure if the Phil Beer band are also playing But I am certain that "Last nights Fun" (Cris Sherbourne and Denny Berkley, right spellings I hope) are due to appear. Cost is around £12, if there are any tickets left. Given that they have twice filled the Albert hall who knows. If you are tempted the box office is 01305 871130, their website is www.showofhands.co.uk Cheers Sledge |
Subject: RE: BS: Anyone going to Abbotsbury From: Liz the Squeak Date: 30 Jun 01 - 05:16 PM Give my love to the white peacocks (if they're still there - tell them I saw their cousins in Kent 2 weeks ago...) Abbotsbury gardens are beautiful, my mother spent most of her spare time there when she was growing up. If you get to wander round the village, watch out for No. 1 Market Street (big gates, now set back from the road but used to be right up on the pavement), that's where I spent all my holidays until 1975. If you go up the Chapel Hill, look out for the milking parlour. I drank milk that was just out of the cow and over the cooler there, learned to milk a cow there and fell in the dung channel when I was 4. And if you see a short (4ft 1 inch) fat, red haired lady walking down Back Street, it's probably my aunty. Drink in the Ilchester Arms, great food. My other aunty works there sometimes.... And watch out for the photo of the Abbotsbury Observer Corps in the bar, one of them is my Granfer. Ah, wish I was going... when is it again?? I can be there in spirit if nothing else.... LTS who is now thoroughly homesick and will have to get the photo album out..... |
Subject: RE: BS: Anyone going to Abbotsbury From: sledge Date: 28 Jul 01 - 12:46 PM I was wondering, if in the end any other Catters were indeed able to go to the Show of Hands gig at the botanical gardens at Abbotsbury. It was a great day if you don't count the occaisional heavy showers that appeared later, but then it is a British summer after all. While in Abbotsbury I was treated to the best pork pie I have ever eaten, made with pork and stilton, goes well with beer. The music as expected was superb, Last nights Fun were great and full of energy. Phil Beer performed with some friends from His own band, Debs Sandland and Gareth Turner, a man who makes even me like squeeze box things. Steve and Phil finished off a great evening with plenty of favourites and a healthy dose of tracks from their new album. It was hard to see if anyother catters were there as waterproof clothing would have hidden any t shirts or badges. :-) Some star watching and a further drop of beer back at the camp site finished the night. The following day I travelled back to Gosport with a friend only to encounter another British summer tradition, the motorway tail back. Anyway, weather and traffic aside I plan on going next year and will probably extend my stay. Sledge |

Subject: RE: BS: Anyone going to Abbotsbury From: sledge Date: 29 Jul 01 - 11:27 AM Given the bloody awful noise peacocks make they are the ones who would generaly avoid good music, your Aunties however? :-) Sledge |
