I know there is a similar thread to this somewhere, but I could not seem to find it,anyway- A few days ago I asked for advice about buying budget speakers for my stereo, I got some very good advice of people, and Bill Sables sent me a private message, offering me his old speakers.I have already got some now, but I think this was really kind of him. You are obviously a really nice bunch of people and I am glad to know you.john

I would tend to agree with your sentiments about the Mudcat. You might want to check out the Mudcat Faq thread which is at the top of the list of threads on the Forum Home page. It can help you with technical things like how to search for and bring back a thread that has dropped off of the page.

Why is it that I end up with stereo speakers out my eyeballs and somebody 6,000 miles away needs speakers???? I have 3 sets of speakers that I don't need (there just might be 3 more in Bubba's bedroom). I buy RCA, GPX, Sony, etc. stereos and they all come with speakers.

Less than a year later the CD drive goes out, or the tape record head blows up, or the FM dies; always something. So, I go buy a new stereo (costs more to fix it than a new unit)and it comes with speakers. The speakers NEVER seem to go out............

Don't tell me to go buy an expensive stereo system--I have kids, and dog and cat hair, not to mention Wyoming Wind and Dust..........

Have speakers, will travel...........

sorcha, buy separates, not systems then you only get the bits you need and I don't think you need to go expensive - not sure what my stuff cost - Tim, one of my brothers gave it to me - I've got a Kenwood Amp, Aiwa Tape, Denon Tuner, JVC turnatble and unbranded speakers - I'd guess a total mismash but it works for me (or for my parents at the moment) and I think sounds good. The house has cats and a dog - even had a toad in the house last night! but the thing keeps on going...

I agree with Jon, I have got Sony CD player, Rotel amp, Mission speakers and Denon Tuner, all bought for less than 100 pounds each.The good thing about this is, I can add bits whenever I can afford it.I am now saving for a minidisc machine, I think I will probably get a Sony one.

Another good thing with separates is if one thing breaks you will only have to replace that thing, not the whole unit.
