Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Noreen Date: 03 Jul 01 - 06:52 AM Hi, Tatterfoal, and welcome to Mudcat. Tell us a bit about yourself? Noreen |
Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 03 Jul 01 - 07:06 AM You have a Mudcat Name, you are not posting as a GUEST. That means you must be a member. W E L C O M E ! ! ! Your choice of name suggests that you may be a new addition to the Yorkshire contingent of the Mudcat. Do I guess correctly, Tatterfoal??? If not, give us a clue! The e-mail part of joining up seems to be fairly unimporant. What you must remember is your Mudcat Name and password. Write them down somewhere. A lot of people have ended up signing on sesvral times because they lost their login name, and couldn't remember exactly what they had used. The Mudcat sends a COOKIE to your browser, which identifies you to the site as a member. If you use a different computer or a different browser, the cookie is not there, so the Mudcat thinks you are a guest, and asks you to log in again. Do not be tempted to use a new name. It just clogs up the system with useless junk! You can alter your membership details once you are logged on. Try reading the Newcomers Teal coloured Permathread at the top of the Forum. This is locally called a Blue Clicky, can't think why? Quack!!! Geoff the Duck

Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 03 Jul 01 - 07:22 AM I guess this is Geoff's reaction to the current fashion for all lower case .....*BG* Welcome , Tatterfoal. What I want to know is why the name indicates Yorkshire provenance? Murray |
Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 03 Jul 01 - 07:26 AM Sorry - the BIG letters were supposed to end after the WELCOME!!! I must have mis-typed something on my close font size brackets - Whoops! GtD |
Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Noreen Date: 03 Jul 01 - 07:36 AM I was wondering that too, Murray. Geoff, if you ask the elves who live in the Help and Trouble Forum very nicely, they may nip along here and tone down your overexuberance somewhat... were that possible... *grin* ♥ Noreen |
Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Geoff the Duck Date: 03 Jul 01 - 07:51 AM Noreeen - What's the point! All the following comments would become meaningless! Anyway - I have made bigger mistakes than that in the past - why let a > or two worry me? My assumption of origin is based on there being a Dance Team named Tatterfoals, although thinking back - they could be based around Scunthorpe, which would make it Lincolnshire, not Yorkshire. I think Banjoflower is or was one of their musicians.
A friend who came originally from Scunthorpe swears blind that the once tried to re-name the local technical college South Humberside Institute of Technology, with a logo containing the obvious Initial letters, until a new temporary secretary looked at the new letterhead and asked if they were taking the piss!

Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Les from Hull Date: 03 Jul 01 - 07:53 AM If my aquatic friend is alluding to Tatterfoals Morris, may I point out that they are a Scunthorpe (Lincolnshire) side. So they might be close to Yorkshire but they're still 'ony yeller-bellies!'. Not that I've got owt agin 'em, I can see Lincolnshire through my living-room window. So anybody with good eyesight and an accurate arm might extract vengeance for any such remarks. Welcome to Mudcat, Tatterfoal. And that stuff above is what sometimes passes for humour here. |
Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Murray MacLeod Date: 03 Jul 01 - 08:07 AM I hate to admit this, but I have always believed Scunthorpe was in Yorkshire. (Geography was never my strong point).I guess that means that Martin Simpson is not a Yorkshireman after all ............. Murray |
Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Noreen Date: 03 Jul 01 - 08:34 AM Tatterfoal may well change the question to: Help: What</b> have I joined? *LOL* |

Subject: RE: Help: Have I joined? From: Bob Bolton Date: 03 Jul 01 - 11:34 PM G'day Tatterfoal and welcome! Mrzzy: I don't know if we Australians have exported Tattersalls to the Poms - along with our more dubious beers - but the Tattersall consultation (posh name for a lottery) started in Sydney (in the Tattersalls Bar, which we still have) and moved way south to Tasmania for tax breaks ... thence back to Victoria, probably for equally financial reasons. Regards, Bob Bolton |
