All I know is this: I went down to the local bar; To buy my daddy a big cigar; When I got home he was dead; Somebody's shot him in the head. And: Oh dear daddy; You're not gonna see me sad; Cause everything we did was bad. I don't know the artists name.

Woof, sounds heavy! Hope it's sung with a huge grin and a lot of fingerpicking... this reminds me of The Face On The Barroom Floor, and of Daddy don't go to the mine today, but seems to be different. I'll look forward to somebody posting these...

I'm really curious about the missing words and the origin of the song.

...By Madonna? Are you sure it exists anywhere but in Madonna's repetoir? I'd never noticed that she was prone to producing traditional music.
Have you tried any of the sites (I'm sure there are a couple) devoted to Madonna?
The lyrics sounds rather gallows-humorish, a little bit like a Tom Lehrer song.....
